RE: Good second ARF
First, welcome to RCU. It's a terrific place with lot's of great info.
As Eric has pointed out, your question has been asked a LOT, which is why he gave you other threads to read. I think if you read those, your question will certainly be answered. ;) Dennis- |

Welcome to the party! Lots of fun to be had here. Lots to be learned and, when you feel like it, we hope you will share your experiences and your accumulated wisdom. When you get your second plane, whatever it is, start a build thread and bring us along on the construction. Many will share some tips and some will take your thread and base their next plane on it. We don't all agree about things, so don't get frustrated if you don't get one answer to your questions. You have to weigh the sources and how well they fit into your style. But that is the fun part. You can be successful and have a great time in this hobby following many paths. Glow, gas, electric and gliders are all part of the fun. Perhaps you will try them all some day. I hope you will be a frequent visitor. |

RE: Good second ARF
Howdy to the "O.C."- This site is literally so huge and efficient, if an RC item exists, it has a thread about it ;)
I did not reference those threads but the consensus is the SIG 4 Star 40, GP Sportster, and Tiger or Tiger II ARF's are great as airplane #2 ... I have trained a couple guys and had the Magic Extra be plane #2 also- I even recommend the Modeltech Magic-3D, but only with the idea that the CG be correct and the control throws very minimal--- It has a light wing loading, thick wing (slow flier), and your 40 will power it VERY well whereas on other planes a decent 46 would be the standard- Enjoy! |
RE: Good second ARF
Hey its me again would a Something Extra be a good second?:D

RE: Good second ARF
One thing for sure, if you can get a SG SWII to go straight down the runway you can fly anything with a tailwheel.

Tiger Stick. Thunder Tiger Pro 46.

RE: Good second ARF
Is it that horrible on the ground.

ORIGINAL: barrelheaven Hey its me again would a Something Extra be a good second?:D I don't know what your fist plane was, but a Rascal 40 (SIG) is a great plane. Flies easier than my trainer does, looks great in the air, ground handles easy, does decent basic aerobatics. Powered mine with a .56 Saito, running a 12-5 prop |
RE: Good second ARF
I picked up a Ultra Stick 120 a couple weeks ago at a swap meet... I plan to build it up over the winter... Since I'm a beginner, I was going to save it for when I had more experience, but from other's have posted on this thread it may be a good second airplane... It's big, constant cord wing and hopefully will fly a little slower than a .40 - .60 stick...
Any thoughts or should I stick with something like a Tiger 2 for my next step up??? |
RE: Good second ARF
My 2nd plane is a Ultra Stick 40. On low rates and not flying over 1/2 throttle at first. My 2nd plane was going to be a Tiger 2 kit, but it got severely water damaged from a leak in the bathroom over my garage. I ended up throwing it away. The Ultra Stick scared me at first, but after 1 season I fly it wide open with a 46FX and 12.25 x 3.75 prop!
