Engine Mounting Question

While building my TT Trainer .60 I found that when mounting my SuperTigre .60 engine that the enginge mounts seem to pinch the engine a bit. Is this normal when fitting an engine into a mount? The mount is adjusted as far apart as possible and it still appears to be parallel. Will this be a big problem with vibration, or should I be okay?

RE: Engine Mounting Question

If you can fit the engine between the bearers, & they aren't bent in order to do it, you are probably OK. If you have to bend the bearers, they will fracture at some inconvenient time & the engine will be a bit loose (maybe fall out).

You can grind a bit away from the inside of the bearers to make it fit -- that is much better than forcing it in.

RE: Engine Mounting Question

Since the case is round, you can ususally get away with shaving just a bit off the top corners to get a good fit.

I have to admit, I have just shoved the engine in and screwed it down on nylon mounts before, just letting the nylon get out of the way. No problems doing that, but then again, I was doing it on combat planes, and nylon mounts don't last long in combat planes. And it isn't because of vibration or bending stresses either.

If you do just shove it in there, check it once in a while for signs of cracks forming. If you see any cracking, or if it's a black nylon mount, any light streaks showing up, it's time to replace the mount.

RE: Engine Mounting Question

I had the same problem when I installed my OS-46FX on a 40 mount
I shaved off just a little and it fits and works just fine.. I think its better
than leaving the stress on the mount.. With all the vibration it can't help
but start to crack.. If a little(shaving) will not do.. Get a bigger mount..
