RE: Pay it forward (Was freebie and free engine)

J3FAN here...! I am happy to announce that my candidate was finally contacted. READ THE PREVIOUS POST.......this he wrote BEFORE we actually talked on the phone, which shows that he was STILL HOPEFUL of some help. This SAMOLOT will be happy with the package and it should serve him well. It will be sent from Houston to NYC for about 35 dollars. I am told the buses will not crush like FedEx and UPS are prone to do.
With his Father's consent the package will move. He still has a lot of OBSTACLES to overcome, needless to list them here, but I feel that with his determination they will be overcome. It is also a timely event because he will turn 16 years old on FEB 09.
The package is like this :
PLANE ......................the BLUE MAX sold by Hobby People (discontinued)
MOTOR......................MAGNUM .52 four stroke
RADIO ......................complete set FUTABA with 4 servos installed.
This plane is ABSOLUTELY a most excellent flyer, with a motor that is super quiet. It has been used for INSTRUCTION and many DEMOS to people like CUB SCOUTS who have made a lot of buddyboxed flights on it, during our ToysforTots progs.and other promotional events.
If left alone the plane is so good that it will hold a heading and altitude for a while by itself.
It is very very good. He should be happy once he gets going.
It arrives totally ready to fly, everything is included: propeller, radio, charger, THE LOT
CHeers to all ...........
PAY IT FORWARD has been served. (or will be, soon ! )

J3,

:D:D:D:DWay too cool :D:D:D:D I want one too...just kidding I am glad he got back to you.

I also have good news, There were enough donations that came in overnight to order the trainer for Mike L.

I would like to thank all of those who contributed donations to this cause. You all did an excellent job and jumped right in with no questions asked. I would also like to thank RCU (RCadmin)for setting up the email address to allow me to create the Paypal account to continue to accept donations.

Please keep the donations coming, I'm sure we will come up with someone else we can use it for.

The address to use for Paypal is [email protected]

I have also setup my email address in the PIF account to make sure I am notified when a donation is made, but I need someone to test it for me. Since my email shows in the account and I must login to send any test money, when I try, it comes back and tells me that I cannot send money to myself, imagine that [:@].

Thanks again everyone, (you know who you are) for the donations

EDITED: removed the request to test the Paypal account

I have made a donation of $15 to pay it forward and i hope it will help. as you know i do not have much money but it is the least i could do. i hope more people will do the same as i did as this is a great thing. lets all help the best we can even if all you can give is a package of CA hinges. it is not always the big items i.e engines and planes that people need. pay it forward is a great act of generosity and i guess trust. lets see this go from STRENGTH TO STRENGTH. pay it forward is already a great success and im sure with all the support it will be around for a long time to come.
bubbagates keep up the good work.

I do have a the flight sim that came with a nexstar if anyone wants it. I know it is not the best but if it helps someone please let me know and i will ship it out to you. sorry i dont have more to offer right now but thats all i have.

Mr Peterson,

I really appreciate the donation. I would have sent this in a PM but you RCU username did not show up in Paypal.

Paul,

I really appreciate the donation as every little bit helps. :D

As far as your SIM goes, check post 229 on page 8 of this thread...He was looking for the CD-ROM for that very thing

[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]You guys are leaving me speachless (ask anyone, that's hard to do), this week has been a total shock to me, all the generosity has been unbelievable. I wish I knew a better way to do say thank you but words escape me right now[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

I will ask that you either PM me that you made a donation or include you RCU username (ID) in the Paypal comments field so that I may that I may thank you personally. If you wish to remain anonymous that is fine also but please let me know that so I do not spend allot of time tracking you down to say thanks. (It's just easier on me)

RE: Pay it forward (Was freebie and free engine)

All,
Speaking of over whelming I hope this doesn't-howiver it very well might do that! My pardon if it does.
Fellow PIFs.
Not going to mince words here, just going to get right to the gist of my problem.
And you all can help.
One of our posters here at RCU is a hero to a group of middle school students, oh, and to me too! He is contributing his time and money to get them started into RC, his school contributing just a little.
Check here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_22...tm.htm#2604600
Look at posts # 131 and 132
Items involved:
1-Royal B-25 in the box
1-Maratuka P-61 in the box
1-PICA Spitfire in the box with/retracts(bought with the kit)
Problem:
I offered one of the above three kits to this gentleman for use in either his class room or for basically “enticing” other youngsters into the realm of RC. He was thrilled that someone would offer something to his group.
Now the problem.
No matter which one of these kits would be selected, there would be an immense follow on cost associated with the building and eventual flying of it.
A multi-channel control system
One or two large engines
Servos, tanks, covering, and the list of course goes on.
This is almost to the point where this individual can’t accept the gift because the extended cost would be a bankrupting situation.
This gentleman also has a young family, the last addition of which was triplets, need I say more!
With this in mind I’m willing to assume some of the cost of the ongoing build.
To supplement this cache of funds, I think it would be prudent to then auction, sell, barter or ? whichever kits are not selected.
I’d like to get some input from the “Universe” here on your thoughts about that approach..
I’d like to keep this in the light of day, but I also don’t want to take over this string.
So-advice is needed as I’m a new comer here and don’t really want to step outside the normal boundaries of decorum here.
I want to be able to allow as much help as is possible by as many as possible also!
More importantly I want results which be in the best interest of these beginner model builders and their mentor.
Please give me some direction as to how, when and where to proceed.
If you want to jump in and volunteer an item or items-fantastic!
My user-id across all internet forums I participate in is kywoodwrkr.
Check me out, I’m not a fly by night individual, (I didn’t realize the humor there) heck, I can’t even fly by day!
Remember the goal is to optimize the return to this young group from the above items so please poureth forth your thoughts!
Thanks.
DaveP

J3-FAN again. Once I get to speak to Samolot's father (out of town until Wednesday) then the plane package will be shipped up to NYC to finalize the deal..with his approval.
Meantime, here is proof of what RCU has managed to connect to this young man.
The BlueMax with about 5 years of good work in TRAINING and SHOWS. The best possible flyer.
J3-FAN holding the plane so he gets an idea of the size.
Samolot promises to add his post when the plane is received and flown.
He has arranged to Join a Club and find an Instructor.
GREETINGS y'all from Texas

I won't argue that one...:D Seriously the response has been more than I ever imagined. To bad we can't get this into the news, holly cow, I'd have to quit my day job to be able to keep up with it. Which would also not be a bad thing

I also would put them up in the marketplace and see what happens plus you already posted them here which is also a good start.

I’d like to keep this in the light of day, but I also don’t want to take over this string.
This string/thread is for everyone, not just any one person, so have at it. :D

If at all possible get a list of the needed items and post them here once the kit that they are going to do is chosen. Then everyone can get an idea as to what they need and then watch the thread do what's it is so good at doing

Looking for DONATION of 1 FUTABA TRANSMITTER 4 channel or better, FM on channel # 47
this item will complete the DONATION already promised in POST # 257
If offered, it could be sent to me : J3-FAN --- or directly to the recipient.
J3-FAN will provide either address if requested.
I did not expect to NOT have a TX for this donation, but will appreciate any help in this deal.

In responce to Dave Woodwokr
I think the idea is great but the plane selection is a little tough for beginers, to build and to fly. I would hate to see the beginners build the plane and see it crash on it first flight.
I would suggest trading all three kits and get a Cub or something scale but easy to build and fly. That way if you have several beginners learning , they all might get a chance to fly it. Just my two cents. Rich

To (Rick) J3FAN, you are my hero. Not JUST for the fact that you are offering such a nice plane to a needy young fella, but because you helped me when I was getting started, and donated a trainer to the cause, and you continue to be a great friend. It didn't surprise me at all to see you post here, or to hear of your generosity. I know samolot will be grateful.

I sure wish I had something to give right now. I think I have a couple fuel tanks lying about, 16oz and 4oz I think. Also a Futaba S3004 servo with one eyelet broken off, but it would still be great for a throttle or something. Three screws would hold it, or even glue it in.

If someone wants my fuel tanks, or servo, PM me and ask for it, and it could be yours. Thanks.

Jim C

Also...any Houston area Realtors that need a good home inspector, please refer me to your customers, and put me to work. Thanks.

sig man, if you have a charger that will charge 1 cell like the hobbico quick field charger MKII, then cut off the plug on your glow ignitor charger and use the field charger with the plug to charge the ignitor.

I am 16 and in school and broke. i want to get my trainer flying again. my friend and i started a club in school to teach people to fly rc planes, and my trainer needs a 40 size engine and 2 servos. if anyone has an old engine and servos laying around just pm me. i could pay shipping.

RE: Pay it forward (Was freebie and free engine)

Tim,

You just did exactly what you needed to do by posting what you have. Now someone that is in need of them should PM you and request them. Just be careful, I usually ask for a reason to be explained in detail and depending on the item (high dollar as in engine, radio, etc...) I also ask if there is a way to verify the info given. You would be surprised at how well this has worked for me. Use your instincts. I do.

There are a few posts back through the list that are related to teachers and I think one EMT but I have never heard what happened to them. Usually the list will not hear much as most of it is handled among the 2 parties via PM. I have heard and enjoyed making some good friends through this list.

It is of course up to you in how you handle this but I do strongly suggest the above to start.

The rewards of this thread are more than you can imagine. As the old saying goes "trust me on this one"

For those of you who gave so freely to the donation account for the trainer last week, we had enough funds in 2 days time to cover 80% of the cost, once I got paid on thursday, the balance was covered and the plane was ordered. I just checked and the airplane is out for delivery to the recipients home. BTW...We bought an LT-40 ARF and between the other items he recieved via this thread he is all but ready to go. This plane will have JR537 servos a Saito 56, and I am not sure of the radio but it was also a good one.
What a present to have when coming home from work.

Without publically divulging who the people that donated were, All I can say is WELL DONE you all ROCK

BTW...He has promised to take pics of the process and post them. I believe I have him convinced to do a member review of that plane since there isn't one anywhere here on RCU. I will help him with the wording and it will be geared to the first time ARF builder/pilot.

Well everybody I just got it. The LT-40 came by FEDEX about an hour and a half ago. I can't wait to get it put together. I can't believe all the generosity thats been shown to me here in Pay It Forward. I'd like to again thank all the people who pitched in on the LT-40 ARF. The generosity shown here is truly overwhelming as I've been given a BRAND NEW LT-40, a Satio-56 4 stroke engine, 4-JR-537 servos, 7 props, a new 7 channel receiver, a channel 46 crystal, a flight simulator, about 1/3 gallon of fuel, and a NIB glow starter & charger.
I already had a JR-662 TX that I bought on RCU marketplace so I should be set for the skies. Again I say thank you and god bless all of you here at Pay It Forward.
Thank you,
Mike Lawrence
Plus a gallon of fuel since I posted. Thanks, Tim

Thanks to the generosity and kind heart of Bill(bubbagates) my kids and I now have an engine and props for our Kadet. (see post #110 and #119 for my story)
We are still looking for a four to six channel radio system. The scratch building has begun and photos will be posted as completion nears.
My ten year old asked me when I opened the box Bill sent " Dad, did that guy really give you all this stuff???" " Yep he sure did!!!
There are still some good people in this world." I answered. His only reply: "COOL"

Thanks again Bill.

Hi all,

i guess i'll give you all an update as to the RC program i've been working on at my local Civil Air Patrol squadron. i started inquiring about donations back in august of 2004. i got in touch with the great people over at Horizon Hobby. Peter Goldsmith was gracious enough to donate a Hangar 9 Alpha .60 ARF. We recieved the plane in January, and set to work on it right away. During the time between receiving the plane, i brought in various examples of radio control systems to demonstrate to the cadets. we covered radio systems, airframes, and powerplants. Once assmebly began on the Alpha, things progressed rappidly. Last week was the third week to work on the plane and it is basically finished. Only minor trimming of the control surfaces is needed now. It's still too cold to begin flying, but hopefully next we will be able to run the engine. Ah, this brings me to a point i should have mentioned earlier. We were in need of an engine and radio system. I spoke with our local hobby shop owner and he was able to bring the price down on a JR Quattro and Evo 61 engine so that they would fit within our $250 budget. At our last CAP meeting, i took some pics of the progress. Here is a link.

http://community.webshots.com/user/capok103

So far things are going really well, the cadets enjoy the project emensly. hopefully, the flying will go well too! If anyone has a flight sim they'd like to donate or lend, we would greatly appreciate it! Thanks everybody!

Hello all, my name is Mike and I was hoping to get help in getting a trainer combo for my uncle Ed who is 70 something years old and will be giving me a ride back and forth the fly my new LT-40. He gave my a ride to the LHS yesterday 2/10/05 to check on a problem I am having with my receiver and while we were there he told me 3 times I wish I had the money to get that plane. It was a Avistar combo arf with engine and radio.
I haven't told him I'm trying to do this I want it to be a surprize. If you can send a donation send it to: ([email protected]) I got bubbagates permission to use the PIF account.
Thank you,
Mike

Anyway, I may have a copy of G2 around the end of the month. If you get one PM me, if not please remind me around the 23rd of this month (feb) via PM as this thread takes off and it's sometimes difficult to go back through the posts
