Tiger 2 elevator throws ....

Test flew the T2 Tiger with less than ideal conditions. Dark overcast skies, 2 Degrees C and 30 km winds. The power plant is a well used FX40 with a MAAC mini tuned pipe and an APC 10-5 prop. It turns out that the engine has plenty of power for the plane. I had to increase the rudder throw over the high rate setting to maintain control on the runway. Once in the air the plane seems to enjoy slicing through the wind and is a great performer. It makes lots of whistling noise as it cuts its path through the sky. I have the elevator on high rates and it seems like its running out of elevator on landing. Any one else notice this or do I just need more speed for landing this plane?? Thankx for your feedback. :D

Does the plane have enough elevator travel while going a higher speeds. If it does it is possible that your tiger is too nose heavy. Because the tiger is a pretty clean design with a symmetrial wing it will land faster than most planes.

Hmmmm, at higher speeds the plane is incredible. It does everything really well. It really is one of those planes that can be flown from mild to wild with ease. I did add a lot of nose weight to get it to balance. Maybe I ned to recheck it. [8D]

I have a Tiger 2. You ought to see it with an OS .46 AX in it! I mounted the engine towards the front of the mount. Balances fine there.
My Tiger floats in nice for landings. I'd remount that engine all the forward on the mount and see where it balances.

Hi Lu, I read about mounting the engine forward as possible and did that. I used 4" for the cg setting. What measurement did you use for your cg? I am considering getting an AX engine for the T2 as well.

Does the maual have a starting cg point? If it does start there and move it back in maybe 1/4" increments till it lands like you want it. Beware too far back and it will be uncontrollable so don't go overboard on it.

No starting point listed. From the manual it says:
CENTER OF GRAVITY Balance Point on fuse,
measured back from
wing leading edge
3-1/2" to 4-3/8"

If I remember right, my Tiger II balanced at the rear of the recommended limit by moving the battery around. I think I also increased the throws a bit from the recommended on high rates but kept the low rates per the book. If I remember, I'll check after work and post the results.

Flies awesome with an O S 50SX in the nose!

OK, here are the measurements on my Tiger II:

Ailerons I have pretty close to the 1/4" low and 3/8" high maybe 1/16" more on each

Elevator I have at 1/4" low and 1/2" high (book says 3/16" and 5/16" )

Rudder is all I could get. the rudder on this airplane doesn't have a lot of authority. Mine won't do knife edge. The elevator and ailerons work very well at the settings I have mine on mine.

Sorry I didn't get this on here last night, but I got sidetracked when I got home from work.

Hope this helps,

RE: Tiger 2 elevator throws ....

Thanklx Phi! You are right about the rudder. I was unable to turn my Tiger on the runway when it was windy so I maxed it out right away before the first flight. After reading your post I am going to increase my elevator throws and see what it does. The aileron throws are higher than manual spec and work well with this setting. I have to change out the landing gear. It has holes drilled into it to make it lighter and it collapes very easy. Going to heavier landing gear may mean I can remove some balance weights. I am also considering throwing a larger engine in it. Want to get it flying right first. Now I just need another warm weekend to check things out. :)
