New Receiver not responding to remote

i have recently bought a new flight pack and the new receiver does not work with my original radio, all the new equipment is the exact same as the old but i notice the crystal is a little banged up. could the crystal have been banged up and not respond to the tx crystal?

Does the original receiver still work with the suspect crystal ?

If the suspect crystal works in the original Rx and doesn't work in the new Rx it would suggest some other problem, like the antenna of the new Rx. Or possibly the crystal is not seating properly in the new Rx?

If you see damage to the crystal case, then most likely you're right - the crystal has been fractured. That's a classic case for why we should pack them in foam in the airplanes!

Can you take a crystal from another rx and put it in there to try verify that your original crystal is bad?? Different manufacturer's use different model crystals, so you'd have to get a crystal from an identical receiver. As an 'acid test', give the new rx a range-test with the engine running, to verify operation.

If your crystal was damaged, you could have additional problems, such as a loose contact where the crystal plugs in, or a fractured land on the PC board, or a bad component. This way, you'll be sure.

RCJon, it looks like we both posted at the same time. Your reply wasn't up there when I began typing my answer, but it was there when my reply got posted. It looks like we both said the same thing.

I hope that this helps.... Let us know how you make out...

Just my $.02

Sortta the same thing, but you offered much better specifics.

If krameris1 has a visibly damaged crystal, and if the original Rx is no longer available for testing, might we assume that, although we feel sympathy for krameris1, we d*mn sure would have liked to have seen that wreck.
:)

First of all what kind of TX and RX are we talking about? Are you sure that the RX is a match for the TX? Is it the correct shift? Also, are you trying to run a PCM TX on a PPM RX or the other way around? With a little more info we should be able to figure it out really easily. One bit of advice, ALWAYS by a new crystal when you get a new RX to avoid possible bad crystal issues like mentioned before. [8D]

are the tx AND rx both high band or low band?
high tx wont work with low rx...

WADR. Why don't you "reply" to the poster that you are addressing?

mahmc1 and rcdude37 also have some good tips, but if you don't mind a recommendation, do the simple things first, as suggested in Post #3. Switch a good crystal into the receiver to see if that works. If not, then go on to the other suggestions.

Krameris1, drop a line back here when you get a chance, to let us know how you made out.

I'm gonna ask a stupid question, But did you get the right channel when you ordered a new flight pack?

rcjon,
Who are you talking to like that??? I see no posts from a name like that but you appear to be responding to me. Lets keep this polite and on the subject. Thanks. [8D]

i never got a crystal in the package, the crystal is the same from the original trainer (EVERYTHING INCLUDED) package. also, the old receiver is completely smashed and will not work at all! why would i buy a new receiver if the old one works fine??

WADR means With All Due Respect - Didn't mean to sound like I was flaming you.

You replyed to me as though I was the one with the original question. People here are bad about that. My apology if I sounded short with you.

RE: New Receiver not responding to remote

I think that we have the answer here. Thanks for that input, krameris1. I suppose we were all assuming that the new receiver was part of a flight package that you might have been putting in a 2nd plane.

The crystal is the weakest link in the whole flight package. It's pretty susceptible to vibration and shock damage which is why the rx needs to be cushioned... not only to protect it in the event of 'unexpected landings' but also for general flight vibrations.

If your rx was damaged that badly in a crash then it's a pretty fair bet that the crystal is toast too. If the crash was that bad, it might do you good to go over all the Servos and extensions too, and check those for damage also.

I hope that all you need to do is get a new Crystal for that new rx. Remember, not just any crystal will do. You have to get one recommended by the mfr. However, I think that Hitec crystals and Futaba crystals are interchangable.

If I'm wrong on that last statement, would someone please correct me?

Thanks,

Bob

Yep, It definately sounds like your crystal went the way of the Do-Do. As far as an additional receiver goes, I run all three of my planes and two helicopters on the same radio. All I have to do is buy a receiver on the same channel as my radio and that's it. Saves ya from havin a hundred different Tx's layin around.

Yes, you are wrong on that. They will work, but both factories say don't do it. Use only futaba xtals in futaba and hitec with hitec.

Yeah if the rx is toast from a crash then the crystal is too...I ordered a rx and xtal from tower ,hooked it up to a battery and nothing,,sent it back ,they said nothing wrong with it..I get it back ,hook it up again...nothing,,turns out I hooked it up to a servo that was bad, still packed in the original box ,the other 3 worked fine, but not the one I picked out to test...no good...Rog

RE: New Receiver not responding to remote

Thanks for the input, Flyboy. Just FYI, the reason that I asked that question was because when I went to my LHS, who sells Futaba and Hitec, I asked for a Futaba crystal for Channel 14 (the old crystal was Ch 11). They gave me the Hitec and said that that was all they use when the re-crystal a receiver, whether it was Futaba or Hitec.

It was a couple of years ago, so my memory might be a bit foggy about that incident, but the rx has worked OK anyway. I wasn't trying to catch anyone with a 'loaded question', but was just curious of anyone else had ever run into my situation...

Thanks,

Bob

RE: New Receiver not responding to remote

Yea Bob, I was told the same thing by many hobby shops. They all said they work and many do it, but I talked to a rep at Futaba and he said don't do it, so I tell people to not do it. You would probably get away with it forever, but for me, the price dif isn't big enough to make a diff. I would rather have one I know I won't have a problem with.

I am sure they say not to do it so they can sell more crystals, but who really knows.

RE: New Receiver not responding to remote

Flyboy, thanks for that input....

For the record, I asked for a Futaba crystal, and that's when I got the song and dance that they only had the Hitec ones... I wonder if others might get caught on this one too...

Thanks,

Bob

RE: New Receiver not responding to remote

Yea, I think many do get caught. Most don't think anything of it and use it with no problem. I had access to both, so I went with Futaba just to be safe.

Its kind of funny how the guys in a hobby shop can make people believe just about anything just by saying it and people think they are experts. Most of the guys in our hobby shops don't even fly! Pretty scary sometimes.
