Quick Servo Question...
 

About to get the Servo's for my 4 * 60 kit but the instructions do not list the required specs...

I am sure that the Airplane only needs basic Servo's but does anyone know the minimum specs required?

e.g. Speed, Torque etc...

I used the J R standard ball bearing 537 servos, 40 oz-in torque. They were more than enough for the Four Star 60. Never had a problem. Good luck with your 4* 60. Great flying aeroplane.

I got a suggestion, Hitec HS-475HB's. 61 oz of torque at 4.8 V. Cost just a little more than standards. Same size as ell. I have an RCM advanced trainer (60 size) I am gonna use them in the rudder and elevator. See if they will do in the same places. You could use on in the ailerons too if you are using the single srvo option. I am going to use duals and use HS-425HB's there.

Standard servos will be fine for any 40 size sport plane. If you expect to try 3D in the not too distant future (with something other than the 4* ;) ), then higher torque/faster servos would be my recommendation. Also true if you plane to go to 90 or 1.20 size planes.

Use standard servos for the 4*, then invest in better servos for that future bird.

When I started flying in the 70's, a standard servo had 16 in/oz of torque. Shortly there after 18 in/oz.

The modern servos are way plenty, I even run the micros on my ailerons. They still have more torque and speed then those old standards had.

I do recommend a double ball bearing on the elevator. Much less slop in the output. You can make low passes like a surgeon.

So I guess Normal Servos all around, except on the elevator where I will add a better quality one...

I have HS-422's in mine all around. 46oz of torque with a 4.8v nicad pack.

Sukhoi - any standard servo will do fine to be honest, there is no need for anything special if you are doing 3D or radical flying for a 60 sized plane. I have been flying 60 sized planes on Airtronic 102s and Futaba 3003s, no problems at all.

Cool... I was planning on using Futaba 3003's... So now I will...
