can i use tape for the rudder and elevator hindge, or what shoudl i use.......

Depends on the size of plane and the type of tape. I have used covering as a hinge on planes up to 60 size without any problems. For tape I have not gone over a 40 sized plane. I also sealed the edges of tape with Ca. I us 2 inch wide packing tape and I tape both side of the control surface.

Using covering (a.k.a. monkote or ultracote) as a hinge on smaller planes is alright. but I wouldn't use tape as a hinge, mainly because exhaust, oil, and fuel can seap under it and cause it to come off fairly easily.

I agree with RCKen. I wouldn't use regular tape unless the plane was very small and electric. [link=http://airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/construction/film_hinges/index.htm]Monokote hinges[/link] are easy to make and pretty reliable, but I wouldn't use them on something that needed to be very precise.

I use tape for hinges all the time. I fly electrics and sailplanes, so I don't have fuel and exhust goo seeping under the tape. Some of the plane were received from other pilots and the tape is probably 15 years old and is holding up just fine.

If you are using fuel planes, there may be a special tape for that purpose, otherwise tape might not be good on those planes.
