I cannot tune my tigershark :(

Its impossible to set that damn single valve to the exact setting so that the engine doesnt die at more than half open throttle. Ive wasted 3/4 of a glow gallon in trying to tune this thing.

Could someone with a ts91AR tell me their low speed and high speed valve settings please...

RE: I cannot tune my tigershark :(

No matter what i cant get the engine to stay at full throttle for more than 5 seconds cuz then it dies.

Im looking at this: http://www.kangkeusa.com/instructions/TIGERSHARKEngineManual(3dE).pdf right, so which are the low speed, high speed, and IDLE MIXTURE CONTROL NEEDLE ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????/

Please i want to go flying today i need to get this thing tuned once and for all....

First of all I have to laugh my ***** off because I just went through the same thing with my OS .46FX engine. I went through 2 tanks before I could even get the thing to contunuosly run without the glow plug connected.:D

Yeasterday I finally was able to fly with it, and the way I tuned it was just pot luck. The instructions really don't help because of weather temps , prop size ,% of fuel being used , etc.

So I went as lean as I could and back to rich slowly until the engine ran in idle position and when tilting the plane up and down . Man was it cold out but I was determined. My instructions say optimum setting is 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns on needle . I have mine set at one turn and it doesn't over heat. [X(]

The moral of the story is burn the direction because they can't and don't apply for every application in which the engine is being used.

I hope this helps , thats a big engine you have .............break it's back;)

Yeah i havent used the directions until now that i tried to follow them and they didnt work. I dont know much about engines and im not even sure what the high and the low speed valves are or what they do, which is which. I built this plane last summer, and ive been trying to tune it since then with no luck. Ive tried every single possible combination etc, but the engine either dies in idle or dies at more than half throttle. There goes another day wasted in my backyard trying to tune this thing, i even cut my finger with the propeller doing the valve. The batteries just died so i cant go on any more. 2 more tanks, another day, finger cut wasted and im still at 0 nothing...

And what is lean and what is rich. How many valves does yours have. And what is the small little golden screw needle valve in the carb called?

When i turn the valve in all the way it dies, so im guessing im not giving it any air, which = lean which = it dies. Im guessing. If so, should i run it lean or rich, ive gotten it to do 3/4 throttle on 3 turns out with the glow plug on, but then it overheated and it was so hot that when i put water on it it was steaming.

Something is obviously wrong. Have you had someone more experienced look at it? Assuming the settings are in the ball park the problems you're having shouldn't be happening. I would guess it's a problem with the fuel system, not the engine. Is there a kink in the link someplace? Anything leaking?

What are their names, what do they do, how do they work, which way is lean, which way is rich, how many turns is reasonable?

no kinks, and the tank and lines seem good :/

1) = High speed needle. Turning it in = leaner. Turning it out = richer

Turn the high speed all the way in until it just becomes snug. DO NOT CRANK IT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After it's snug, turn it out 2-1/2 turns to start it.

2) = Low speed needle (idle mixture). Same as above. Start it at about 2 turns out.

Yepppppppers . I should have told you to To check for leaks

1. when you crank the prop counter clock wise with fingeer on exhaust ,does the fuel flow from the tank to the carb?
2. If you have two needle knobs close the lower one all the way and then open the upper knob 1 and 1/2 turns .
3. This engine is similiar to mine because there isn't a nose bleed on it , so when you have it started at idling
I suggest you let it warm up for about 2 minutes or so before trying to run it at high speeds.
4. Another thing I suggest is leaving the glow plug on when you open carb all the way , if it still stalls then
you have to close the needle approximately 1/4 of a turn and try again.
5. I got mine to work because I have a os .40 which worked to specs in instructions , also having the OS .40LA
I was able to hear the difference in good RPM and bad RPM. Just luck, like I said that I was able to fly
yesterday. My .46FX actually runs like a 4 stroke for some reason , it only fires every 4 cranks.
6. Look at the top of the glow plug mine was lose , after I tightened it i saw a great difference in power.
7. what percent fuel are you using 5%-25%?
8. STOP RUSHING tommorows another day.;)

yeeey those settings you gave me were almost perfect, if not perfect. I was so happy i took it off for a quick take off and landing but i got carried away and it went into a tree and the tip of a wing broke, but i already got it under control, nothing major, epoxied all that stuff, i should be ready to fly tomorrow at a field.

Your engine is out of adjustment.:D

You need to get both needles set perfectly. Doing this require you to do some bouncing back and forth until you bring it all in. The high end is virtually a no brainer. The low is where problems are. A very simple test will tell you where your low end is at. While the engine is at an idle, pull the fuel line from the nipple or pich it off real good. Wait for the engine to quit.

If the rpms increas right before the engine quits, your low end is to rich, if the rpms hjust go down and quit, too lean. Try and find a spot where you get a very slight increase in rpm and I mean slight.
