Quick question,

Is it wrong of me to want another airplane when I haven't even had the chance to maiden my last one? The weather here in central California is terrible... I haven't seen the sun in like a month and havn't flown in almost as long (flat light flying really stinks) and it's driving me crazy. So... as stated... is there something fundamentally wrong with my already having the itch to get another bird for the hangar? I've got my eye on a super chipmunk down at the LHS...
what to do what to do.... and how do I sell the wife on it LOL

You should have as many sa you want. I currently have 6 great airplanes to fly from Funtana .40 to 40% Extra, and I still want more.
Am I obsessive and compulsive? You bet!... Maybe I should join R/C Anonymous?[&o]

The weather where you are is terrible, try living here in iowa or northern MN. just go out and buy the super chipmunk i love the look of that plane and want one myself. How do you sell the wife on it? dont even try just trade her in for the new model LOL :D

Of course you're not wrong to want another... or if you are, don't admit it to the "better half"... after all you can quit anytime you want, you don't have a habit :D

The trick is to put a positive spin on it..."Yes, I know I already have an airplane, but I felt that it was not challenging me as a person and the possibility of it crashing and leaving me with nothing to expand my horizons was causing a lot of mental anguish and I could sense that you only wanted me to be happy and fullfilled as a person and as a pilot.";)

I Love to build planes. So of course I don't think its wrong one bit. I have 2 that I haven't flown yet, and in the process of building another. As for the wife, mine is great about my hobby. So I guess I'm very lucky there. My first wife wouldn't let me buy anything unless it was "practical". Like socks and underwear. But I guess the wife I have now understands that I truly enjoy my hobby. She even told me just tonight that I should buy another plane. A foamie to use as practice so I don't crash my balsa planes. I'm still in the learning process, thats why she suggested it. As far as the weather goes Chicago sucks. Between the fall & spring, the wind hardly dies down enough. The past couple of days it was 5 degrees & thats without the wind chill. Although a couple of weeks ago it was 50 for a couple of days, but that's typical Chicago weather. Not too bad one day, and below freezing the next. Anyway, I say go for it, unless it would really upset her. As long as the bills get paid, whats the worry...

No, No, No, it is deffo not wrong. I had 5 planes in my hanger before I soloed.

And my wife loves the Planes, accepts the expenditure, NEVER goes to the field with me and does not complain about the amount of time I spend in my "Hanger" tinkering. She is a rock, we do have other hobbies we do together, I just have to remember to devote a little time to them.

Take a looks at this and feel better about yourself... this is the plane I'm assembling now... The WM Rambler 30 with some extra blue coverite (which I must say works wonderfully)

Behind it you see half assembled Funtana, a stripped Ramber EP, a Fliton Extra 330 and a Yak 54 140 Size.

Above what you see is a Kyosho Corsair and a KMP Hurricane... ALL FAR FROM MAIDEN!!!

I have 3 nitro planes and 2 EP flyable.

I wouldn't say it was wrong as I have no problem giving very low time beginners sticktime on almost any type of advanced aircraft. I have several low wing aircraft that I will let anyone fly and often beginners bring a scale ship like a Corsair or P-51 Mustang for me to trim out. I not only do the flight trimming, I will insist that they fly their own aircraft, of course with me standing close by and assisting (no buddy-box). Many times, the newbie will only have a couple of flights on their trainer and then immediately fly the advanced aircraft and quite well. They then realize that the advanced plane isn't much harder to fly than their PT-40.

Welcome to the world of RC.... You have officially crossed over to the dark side. Don't stop till you have every wall, floor and ceiling covered with planes, or heli's, or whatever your RC addicted body wants. No it's not wrong...it's an addiction. I have 6 planes flying now, a kit on the bench, at least 5-10 more I am planning to get when my funds are replenished. And that isn't counting the ones that are just memories now. Are you wrong?....no.... nuts mabye, but never wrong.

ahhh just the answers I was hoping to get. And I'm sorry to complain about the weather, I know many of you have it much worse than me LOL. Now just gotta sweeten up the wife a little more (all I really have to do is buy her anything "scrapbooking" and I'll be in) and head to the LHS.... this is a great hobby...

Dear Caseyh46 --- you are obviously a SAD boy! Seasonal Affective Disorder is a serious illness that can result in extreme depression and suicidal tendencies if left untreated. I suspect that, as a child, your aviation ambitions were suppressed by your father, who was more interested in in messing around with your mother. You were deprived, and as a result now find your well being jeapordized by these childhood frustrations that are manifested as SAD. RUN, don't walk, to the nearest LHS & snap up that Chippie as quickly as possible. Your spouse will be very understanding if you apply suitable erotic stimulation & lavish her with expensive gifts. As for flying in flat light, please consider yourself fortunate not to be flying in the snow, as those unfortunate Canadians are forced to do.

I've got two RC planes, a Lanier Comet..ugh.., and a 4*40 which I love. I'm satisfied with these for now. -- Where I am weak, and give in to temptation, is in control line. I just love building them, messing with old engines (Fox's especially), the feel of that plane tugging at the end of the line, and the rush of split second decisions that spell the difference between success and disaster. I guess it's the experiences of youth returning.
And, oh yes, my wife is supportive.

Many of the contributors to this forum would make very good smugglers, experienced as they are at getting large packages past checkpoints.

I suggest that you work on acquiring this skill yourself. Practice first with packages that, whilst looking suspicious, contain innocuous household items. By doing this if your first attempts result in you getting caught the contents of the package will not incriminate you.

Once you have developed the skill you can go out and buy the kit of your choice without fear.

redback - Although my wife is very understanding when it comes to my addiction, I do have a suggestion. Make sure to keep the box that your first plane came in. If you must camoflauge your purchases, put them in your first box. It is something she has seen and probably not look in it. However, sometime after your additional purchases you will need to work out a way to explain the additional aircraft on your shelf after it is built. :D:D

U guys are funny! I don't have a wife to ask/answer to anymore. Must be why I've only been in this hobby for 8 months and are already on my 7th plane. Tax refund time is a comin'! I've GOT to get my wishlist together!.. let's see...

60 size P51 Mustang w/retracts.................

60 size or larger biplane with smoker system (possible 1st gasser here)..........

Oh yeah, and that new Sig Kadet Electric for the slow backyard flying!!!!!!!

Of course, let's not forget that all of the above mentioned (with the exception of the kadet) will need a new 4 stroke engine with all new radio gear inside (don't want to take a chance on loosing a new plane because of using old servos or receivers!!)

Cut up the Credit Cards Now lol....... thiers no hope

I have about 12 flyable, 2 Heli's about 12 ARTF new in the box and about 13 Kits lol........ boxes full of servo's receivers and about 25 engines waiting for a plane on a shelf........ im kinda addicted to Warbirds, 3D and Speed.... so i kinda want all of them lol...... my next purchase when i get paid is a Weston UK Magum with West .50V1 and Genesis pipe (capable of speeds in excess of 200mph) now that should be fun but will set me back about $479 :D wierd thing is thou i kinda spend more time trying to find a suitable looking pilot for these planes rather than spend the time on the planes themselves and instead of building them all i spend alot of time on EBAY looking for more bargins lol........ Beware of EBAY

So to answer your question is it Wrong the simple answer is NO :), enjoy yourself its your life you should have want you want and dont worry to much about what if..... if u want it just buy it..... but make sure you keep the wife happy too just when u go out and buy a new plane just buy her flowers or take her out to dinner ;)

There is a problem if you don't want a new plane :D I have a Viper 500 that is finished but awaiting decent weather for a first flight, a Seagull edge that I'm still puting together but it is getting close to being finished, a new shockflier in its box that I bough today, Awaiting a UCD 3D that I ordered and should be here in a week or two and Finally next week I will be ordering a KMP 337. So no there is nothing wrong with it. On the otherhand I've seen the list's of planes that some people on this site has and they are sick ;)
