Where to fly.............................
Hey everyone, this is my first post, what a great site this is. I live in South Orange County, California, and started flying last week. So far I have been kicked out of 2 Irvine locations and 2 Aliso Viejo locations. I need a big area because I tend to crash, often. I dont want to have to pay to fly(I do have AMA insurance), where are some other places to fly? I have a 40 size trainer. I can fly any time of the week. I have been able to take off and land successfully 3 times, (LMAO)
Thanks for any info! |
Best Place to Fly
Hi, The best place to fly is with a local club. You should be able to find a couple in your area to check out. They will be able to set you up with a person to help you learn to fly without crashing alot. The money you will spend on joining a club will save you in severial repair!! Try the AMA web page to locat a AMA club in your area. http://www.modelaircraft.org/templates/ama/

Where to fly.............................
Hello, just thinking about what you said in first post. I've never seen or heard of anyone getting "kick-out" of clubs. And you got kick out of four. Just sitting here pondering ..wandering ....
WHAT DID YOU DO!!!! You didnt like tape Estes rockets to the bottom of your plane or anything like that did you ??? |
Where to fly.............................
i don't think it was clubs he was kicked out of.
I think he just pulled over on the side of the road and fired up his plane. |
Where to fly.............................

Where to fly.............................
I just drive around and look for open dirt fields or big parking lots. Then I fly till it crashes, or the cops show up and threaten to issue me a ticket for trespassing.

Where to fly.............................
If you're into flying like most of us are, you'll really appreciate the environment at a local club field. For me it's worth every penny. Especially if you're new at this. There's been several times when I've gone out to our club while batteries were charging just to kill time, and ended up out there way past my alotted time (those of us who are marrried understand the "alloted time" :D ) When I got back into this sport this year, it was a real blessing to have someone check out my model and take it up. When I felt comfortable getting back into the swing of things I became a bigger part of the members. Always being around great people who understand every facet of this hobby is a big help and keeps you motivated whe you hit a rut, or the ground, however it is we look at it!! Join that local club, you won't regret it.

Where to fly.............................
This club wants $200/year, for that price I can get a new plane and engine, its an awsome landing strip, but surrounded by a dried up stream bed with huge boulders and trees all over. I really do like the idea of people looking over my plane before takeoff, but it still isnt worth 200 frikin bucks.

Where to fly.............................
I agree, 200 is alot, I think I'd question that myself. Take a look at the website that got posted in one of these replies to your thread for the AMA Chartered field locations and see if there's anymore in your area. Find someone that's a bit cheaper. I pay 80 where I'm at, and we even do things everynow and thne to make a little money for maintainence and grass cutting. Example, club finds will buy fuel in bulk, and we'll usually end up getting fuel for about 10 bucks a gallon. It costs the club about 8 bucks, so for every gallon sold the club makes 2 bucks. We sold 108 gallons last time we did it, that's $216 profit. That cuts the grass for a couple of months.

Are you sure it's $200 a year? many clubs may have a large initiation fee (to cover costs that THEY have already endured for paving a runway, field appropriation etc) and then lower yearly fees. Check again with them.

Plus if you fly a gas turbine powered model-you don't need a waiver either.(when you fly at a dry lake. ) Jackjet |
