help for control throws on Hi-Boy Trainer

I am just finishing off an old Precedent Hi-Boy trainer I bought about ten years ago. I have replaced the warped ailerons and re-covered most of it.

Could anybody pleasegive me an idea of what the control throws are?

I am guessing at

E = 10mm each way
R= 25mm each way
A= 8mm each way.

Would I be better off setting up some dual rates or just some exp?

Oh and does anybody know how to get old solarfilm off a plane. The film seems to have split into a clear plastic cover, which comes off easy, but leaves a thin coloured layer which is hard to remove.

All tips greatly appreciated.

Regards

Happy Flying

The throws sound about right. I would maybe have a larger throw on the Elevator. I always find its better to have too much rather than too little.
You could use exp but it will probably be reasonably stable. (say 30%)

I think I have some High Boy instructions at home, and am heading back tonight. Providing my aging memory cells don't fail I should be able to post the "official" word tomorrow.

I would suggest dual rates rather than expo for first flights unless you are experience with expo. This will allow you start with conservative rates but still have some extra up your sleeve if you need it.

Regarding the solarfilm question, the only real answer is hard work. Things I have tried include:-

Acetone
Heat gun
Heat gun + scraping
Sanding
Combinations of the above

All of which are a PITA. If anyone has the holy grail of covering removal I too am interested.

Memory worked OKbut organisational skills failed[&o]

I must have instructions for about every kit and ARF I ever put together except the Hi-Boy.

Sorry

I am learning on that plane at the moment I also bought the plane about 10 years ago as a kit and finished it at the end of last year. I have already crashed it and the ground came off second best it’s a strong plane. As with the throws

A = 7-10mm
E = 15 - 25mm
R = 25mm

I have started to nice figure eights and easy to control low fly bys.

It’s a fun plane to learn on.
