Engine size?
 

I have a chance to by a plane that has a 55" wingspan and is 51" long.This plae comes with a Cox .049 engine.Can you tell me if this engine has the power I need to operate a plane of this size?I have never owned an rc plane before so any help I can get on this matter would be gratefullty appreciated.Thanks,

Hi fellow Canuck! From what you've described so far I'd say the motor is on the small side. What kind of plane is it and weight? Is it an ARF or kit? If yo're just getting started I hope it is a trainer design. This is a great forum for advice if not in this forum then try the engine forum.

The plane I was writing about was a kit. I don't know the wieght,
or if it is a trainer. My intention was to get this kit and build it and not fly it ,I would probably crash it .After it was built I was going to sell it .I have never built an rc plane before but I have 10 years woodworking experience building clocks and other furniture,and thought I would try something new.Thanks,

NORM is on the right track. What kind of plane is it?

It may be a GLIDER TYPE and then that engine would be sufficient to get it to elevation to search for a thermal.

but whatever it is be sure it's intended for a beginner.. I hate to see a new guy get frustrated because he crashed. If you get good instruction it's not too bad of a hobby to get into financial wise, but if you "GO IT ALONE" it can really get to your wallet.
I "PUT IN" (crashed) two even though I had an instructor who I later found out didn't know any more then I did... BUT I'm BULLHEADED,STUBBORN,HARD HEADED and don't know how to take defeat !!! (sound familiar ART?)

See if you can find out any more information on that plane and post it back here and someone will help you with it.

I agree if it is a glider the 049 would be OK.
