mounting engine

I inverted the engine and notice that the cowl doesn't fit.
I also notice when looking at the firewall from the bottom of the fuse,it has a built in thrust angle that tilts to the left and top- right tilt. Also the engine mount is mounted off center (Horizontal) on the firewall.But the engine is center vertical to the cowl. I dont want to use this engine mount. I would like to install ( Dubro Motor Mount .80-.91 4-Stroke). So" would it be safe to assume, to lower the engine mount(Dubro) directly down on the firewall keeping all other relations the same ? BTW the fuel tank will be higher than the carb. What kind of problems can I expect here ? I'll be using an external fuel dot for filling. Later.. |

Good job on getting that thing all the way in the cowl, however...........it ain't gonna work.
Your right, you need to center it up and cut the cowl. The motor will hang out, thats OK. A tad bit, 2 degrees, of right thrust is prefered. Start drilling more holes. |

That look s like the front end of a WM Dago Red. If it is, here is a shot of my little WM P-51 with an inverted Saito 100. You just have to do what you have to do. But it will fly very well.

What's wrong with the mount that came with the airplane? And what is that, a WM Dago red? Looks like you're using a Saito .72, or is it an 82? If you're worried about the mount being strong enough, I have a Saito .82 in a WM Zen 50, probablly uses same mount. Plenty strong.
As you're probablly noticed, engine mount is off-center because the firewall has built-in thrust. The off-center mount allows the engine shaft to be centered in teh cowl. As for the fuel tank being higher than the carb, you're gonna prime the engine every time you fuel. Just make sure the throttle is all the way closed. I have one plane with a Saito 4 stroke where the fuel tank is quite a bit higher than the carb. The engine just plain runs rich at idle, no way to close the idle screw enough to lean it out because of siphon effect. But the engine idles fine, transitions great, no problems. No onboard glow, just an OS "F" plug. Andy |

Here is a front shot of mine. Your going to have to cut the cowl and expose the engine but it looks okay, cant really notice it unless your turn the plane over. I also had one hole onone side for th high end needle and a tiny hole onthe other side to stick a small screw driver into for the low end.
The Saito s have the same kind of setscrew as OS carbs where as you can use an allen wrench in it and tighten down it down to turn the needle. |

The engine mount isn't padded like the Dubro.
And if I lower this mount the cross bar will be in the way of the fuel tank outlet. The engine is a Saito FA 91S. WM Dago Red |

Radcom, the people at World Models do a really good job building in the correct amount of thrust and then drilling the holes in the firewall to ensure the engine is in the right place. Their mount also works really well. It's nice to have one that adjusts to different engine sizes but does not need different holes in the firewall. Everything should go together just fine on your plane, there should be no need for a new mount.
