Airplane Fuel

Hey everyone-

Could I get some suggestions on airplane fuel for my OS 40 LA? This engine is on a Hobbico Avistar, BTW. I have been running 5% four-stroke fuel (my engines a 2 stroke) for about a year and nothing happened to it. Then, one of our club members suggested to use 10% or 15% and another guy suggested 20% and one other guy said Cool Power (33%) is cool. All I understand is the more nitro, the faster the airplane burns fuel. Cost is no problem, I would just like to know what is the best type of fuel. Also, here in central california, the weather is about 100 degrees (f) during the summer and about 65 degrees (f) during the winter. Thanks for the help.

i use 15% cool power for my os 40 la and it is fine. I run it on a superstar select. So just about anything works

RE: Airplane Fuel

I want fuel that works in the maximum number of my engines. I don't want to take 4 planes to the field, and have to lug 4 bottles of fuel to go with them. I use 15% Omega 50/50 castor/synthetic on everything except my .049/.061 Norvels, which get 25% Byron all castor. So the gallon bottle fuels my .074-.74s (I don't have anything larger, but when I do, it has to handle that fuel, or I won't bother) and the quart fuels the 1/2a's.

I use Powermaster 15% on all my engines(5)... LA-46, 46FX and tower
40(no longer have it) 2c's, and in my Mag 91 and now YS-63 4c's they
all seem to run great with good power....

RE: Airplane Fuel

if your happy with 5% then stick with it. Your engine will not make any more power on anything more than 15%anyway. For a type of fuel i generally use 10% or 15%. the two brands i generally use are Wildcat or Omega. This year i will try some Powermaster. with a castol/synthetic oil mix your engine will run a long time. To the Moron that said to use 33% nitro fuel. Let's see no extra power with your engine, more wear and tear on your engine, about 5.00 a gallon more. Yes indeed i can see why he wants you to run that fuel he sells engines.
