WOW Piper I must say you are right on track. That club off of Division is still there and thats the one in fact that I am a member of.
Cool, it's good to hear it has survived.

However we have gotten over the whole dirt bike issues. As for the URI field there are now 3 of them and they are controlled by the South County Aeromodlers Club.
The place I flew was not part of a club. We were actually flying off the turf. It's good to hear that clubs are thriving up there.

So as for an update not much has changed. ITs cool to hear from a member that lives so far away be so familiar with our small state not to mention its RC end of it all. Good to hear from you.
And it's good to hear from you. I lived in RI from jr high till after graduating from URI. I immediately headed south, where it was warm. I settled in quickly down here, flew on the second full day I was here. One of my instructors moved down here not long after I did. He and I actually talked a couple weeks ago. I suspect the other stayed up there. His name is Bob Reddon.

HA HA How funny I know Bob Reddon very very well hes the RI Aeromodlers club treasurer. And please keep all refrences to temps above the freezing mark to yourself please. It makes me jealous. If I could only go to the field with just a long sleeve shirt on. I wish. Anyway Bob is a frequent flyer still at the club and a trainner. So as you can see things have not changed all that much. You can see pictures of him at our functions througout the last few years. Go to ... http://www.ri-aeromodelers.com/ click on the photos section you will see 2004 and FunFly 2004. The 2004 section has many pictures of Bob in it and the Fun Fly 2004 my brother and I were the events coordinaters for that and we are in those. I am the shorter of the 2 and my brother has the orange shirt on. I am obviously the other guy in the pictures with him. Older yes, but shorter.

I agree with everyone else, if you are going to buy a radio buy at least a 6 channel computerized radio. I made the mistake of getting a 4 channel with my first trainer and are now looking at buying a computerized 6 channel.

Don't think of the 4 channel as a mistake. Most likely it cost only a little more than a flight pack. As a bonus you got a charger and transmitter. Buy a 6 or 7 channel computer radio that's compatable and on the same frequency and you're good to go. If you ever have problems with the computer transmitter, you've at least got the 4 channel to use. You can also use the 4 channel transmitter as a buddy box if you need help with the second, or any subsequent plane, or if you decide you want to teach later on.

Check it out. O.s. .46fx!!!!! These aren't made anymore but parts are still avalible. Got it from my dads friend in trade for putting his Honda 250r three-wheeler together this spring.:D:D It was ran very little and has tones of compression. I can't wait to run it. What prop would you recomend????

Did he give you the manual? It should have some prop recommendations. In case you idn't get it, never fear. OS is really good about posting manuals on their web site. In fact, it's at this link: http://www.osengines.com/manuals/50s...1fx-manual.pdf

In case you haven't learned this yet, prop sizes tell you the diameter and pitch. The first number is diameter. The second number is the pitch. It tells you the number of inches the prop will move forward for each revolution. In general a prop with a smaller diameter but higher pitch will make a plane go faster than one with a larger diamater but smaller pitch. The reason I mention this is to suggest that as a beginner you want to choose a larger diameter, smaller pitch prop. This will be slower, but will actually pull the plane better. It's kind of like being in a lower gear on that 3 wheeler.

Computer radios are getting more features and cheaper all the time. If you go with anything fancier than a basic 4 channel radio, you won't be able to use the extra functions while you are training anyway. Then after you pass your wings you will still probably be just getting some practice in using the basic 4 channels. By the time that you are ready to move use another channel the newer radios out will have your original radio looking obsolete. MY 2 cents, keep things simple and get a 4 channel radio for starting out. It will work just fine and you can use it for other things down the road. I have 9 planes in my Hangar right now and don't have a computer radio. For your 46FX a Master Airscrew 11-5 prop will work well for a trainer.[8D]

Fastsky, good input on the radio selection. Hopefully all those beginners out there can see the wisdom of staying in the $90 to $150 range for their first radio instead of the $250 to $500 range (7 or 9 channel) that I've seen some people advocate. I've happily flown for years without needing more than 4 channels. However, I will say that there are many features on the 6EXA, and the other basic computer radios, that even a beginner can benefit from. If they can swing the extra $30 to $50, the intro level computer radios are worth a look.

Well, I think I'm going to order the plane tomorrow.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...2&I=LXCAS2&P=K

So, here is my combo. An o.s. .46FX, futaba Skysport 4 radio, and the tower plane. Does that sound like it will run????
