Learning on the frog
Hello , I'm a beginner with airplanes and have had a stroke of luck with finding someone with alot of experience to help me. Thanks David your awesome!! He is even building me a frog to learn on. Heres the question and before you start in I will ask my friend but its not like he has unlimited time to devote to my every flying need. I have purchased a Great Planes PT-Electric kit and am nearing it's completion. I'm quite proud of how good I did building it and even though the coverings not the best it looks OK to me. I am going to get alot of stick time with the frog before I attempt to maiden it but...once I'm good at the frog will I still need help with the PT electric? It is only a 3 channel like the frog and both will have a speed control etc. The PT is much larger and more powerful than the frog but how much different will it or should it be. If possible I will use my friend and a buddy cord etc. but I know that once I gain alot of confidence on the frog I will be mighty impatient. I know I wont be able to wait two or three weeks for a good time for the both of us. Now I'm not stupid and know that the risk is much greater without an experienced hand but I'm willing to take the risks. I built 90 percent of it in like 2 weeks and it was only 60 bucks. Not chump change but the radio I got was three times that much and the better motor set up was like the same price. I was thinking maybe 20 or so flights on the frog( if it lasts that long) and i'll be ready to throw caution to the wind. I certainly don't want to destroy my plane which is why I'm planning on alot of practice with the little foamie first but you just cant wait forever. By the way the PT is a balsa trainer and has a geared 600 motor with a 30 amp esc.I went the nicer route on the radio and bought a vg6000 from airtronics. What do you guys think? Am I heading in the right direction?

Sorry but I haven't heard of the "Frog", and most people here probably haven't wither.
I will say this, the PT Electric isn't all that big or powerful a plane, so you should do okay moving from a small foamie to the PT, especially seeing as they're both 3 channels. Now, if you were asking about moving from the Frog to a PT-40 with a 46 glow engine, I'd say get more help for your first few flights. Good luck, and have fun. :D Dennis- |

The frog is a foam park flyer type thats a pushr design.Look on foam fly.com for more info if interested. I know the PT isn't real powerful and I heard it flies slow so this gives me confidence. It does have a 56" wingspan though. This isn't considered kind of big?
