Relearn to fly.

I was learing to fly when i was 10 years old with my grandpa. He pasded away from a heart attack all of the sudden. I am 20 no and want to get back into it. I was ok at flying back then but not great i was still in learing the basics. I have been out of the game for a long time. I did a search and found an S load of reading that i had to do. So i am looking for a trainer that requiers a little more skill. I dont like the way the LT-40's look like. I kinda like the hanger9.s (hope that is right). I dont want a trainer i will get bored of quikly because i hope to pick it up quickly sence i have flone before. Any ideas.

I have a couple of unfinished planes that he was working on that i will pull out and finish up. He was makeing a B17 (4 motors) and like everyone esle a Mustang way over powered for the day. Now it is about average power now.

Yes i know this question has been beaten to death.

I also know i can not spell my way out of a paper bag.

Hey ... who cares how well you can spell ... we all are here to have a lot of fun! Tell you what if you have flown before then there is no point going back to a trainer. I stopped for 20 years and when I came back I only flew my trainer for 2 flights, sold it immediately, not that I was good but rather it was too boring.

Try this plane from World Models ... its the Super Stunt 40, the plane can be as gentle as a trainer or you can use her for pattern style flying or even 3D.

Happy hunting ...

RE: Relearn to fly.

I am not into huge planes. The B17 that is in a box has a wing span of 60in and have a set of for 4 motors.
The Mustang has a 40in wing span. They are hand built 10 years ago to what my grand dad like.

I like over powered small planes. Although i have seen a couple of people do some low flying on the steets and smack the side of a moving car.

What is a 3D plane. Basicly i like a hot rod plane. Light, small, and hit the deck fast.

I like this Zen-30. http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/p...?airplaneid=43

Guess i will do a search and see if anyone has this plane or anything like it.

RE: Relearn to fly.

Goober we all love fast hotrods but how can you fly that after a 10 years hiatus? You probably might but the risk is high. 3D is something new for me too. They do all sorts of nutty things with the plane. The plane flies like a helicopter even. It can just hang there in a vertical orientation but its not moving, that is called a Prop Hang. If you roll the plane when you prop hang then they call it a Torque Roll. There are a lot more stuff.

Hi...

Although I personally think you would be better with a trainer, given that you where only ten and have had a ten year break...

You may get away with what most people regard as good second Airplanes...

The one which was suggested to me, and which I am building now is the Sig 4 Star 60... Tried and tested... With a Super Tigre G-90 two stroke on it...

Fast... Aerobatic... Easy to Build...

Combined with a good instructior this may suit...

Best of luck...

Matt

I might have to look into 3D. I have seen prop hung witch is cool as hell.

I dont want to go back to a trainer plane. I know i have not flown in a long time but them damn trainers just get on my nerves. I liked it at first but after a week of flying that damn plane it got old realy fast. Only problem i ran into was landing but i learned to land in a grass feild so that did not help.

RE: Relearn to fly.

Goober, I have two suggestions for you. PLEASE, take one of them

1 - Get either a Sig 4*40 (Pictured Above) or a Goldberg Tiger II. These are intermediate planes, not trainers. That means they are nicely aerobatic - will do almost any trick in the book (outside of 3-D) and they look much nicer than a trainer. With one of these planes you can have a LOT of fun, but more importantly, you can do a LOT of learning - Get those landings down-pat, learn how to get out of a jam etc, etc. Once you are proficient with it, the sky's the limit as to what you can go to from there.

2 - Build a SPAD. Look at RCU's SPAD Forum to find out more about these ugly, yet indestructible planes. (And some can do 3-D)

The suggestions by Sukhoi Madness and Minnflyer you may want to listen to carefully. The two airplanes mentioned by them, Tiger 11 and the fourstar series are the ideal aircraft for you and your situation. There is nothing better and they look good. Both are avaliable in several sizes and you have already seen a fourstar picture above and here is a Tiger 11: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXH755&P=ML

Goober, I`ll echo what`s been said about the Tiger and 4*. Both excellent planes. I have a 4*40 and I like it. Because it`s a floater it`ll teach you to fine touch the elevator on landing. I would suggest too that you consider an Avistar. I know you said you didn`t want a trainer and technically it`s one, but with a 46 and its semi-symmetrical wing it`s fairly hotter than a flat wing trainer. After a ten tear lay off I think you`d find it to be just right. It`ll do just about anything you can think up ( except 3D ).

RE: Relearn to fly.

I say you need a trainer. I was thinking the same way minnflyer and sukhoi madness until i read what you said a few more times. you said you were flying when you were ten but you were still learning the basics. thats 10 years ago. I think it would be better if you could give a little more information on what you could or could not do when you were flying.
you say you do not want a trainer like an LT-40 but i think if you don't get a trainer your plane will look a lot more ugly after you have crashed it . yes you could learn on a 4* but you will need an instructor. who is going to teach you to fly? are you planning on joining a club?
whatever you choose to do god luck and happy flying.

GOOD LUCK and I hope you have deep pockets:D:D:D

I think the Hobbico Avistar is a nice compromise between a high wing trainer and a more advanced plane... it has very little dihedral and a semi-symetric airfoil, so it can do some aerobatics. I learned to fly on this plane, and it's a fun, easy to fly plane... I just wish I still had it :( !

I dont have a realy deep pocket. But i do have 12k in mods in my car. Not one of those hondas eather. I have a 99trans am that is putting down 400rwhp and the motor is not even for N/A it is set up for a turbo witch should be in the mail. Looking to make 700rwhp.

As for joining a club. If i realy get into it will join a club.

goober, go with a spad. Get the basics down and then use the mustang or the 4 engine plane

you may have 12k in mods in your car but that is not going to help you fly unless you put wings on it. I would love to see some pics of it. now im green with envy [:'(] LOL. I have a few cars i have an e-type jaguar, and a rolls royce silver shadow all in their original boxes.:D

I dont have all my track pics on this computer. I will have to find them and post them up. The pic of the motor is in the car now and has 450 miles on it so far. The build is not even finesh. I wish it was.

WOW thats a nice motor whatever you do don't try to modify it and fit it to an rc plane i think it would be a little nose heavy:D

Now that would depend on the plane, wouldn't it? It's the AMA's weight restriction that he would need to worry about. ;)

RE: Relearn to fly.

LOL weight reduton on that motor. I dont think so. That short block right there weighs at the least 400lbs easy. I dead lifted the motor into my car when i took it to the mechine shop. I would have put it in the truck but the bed in a stock cheve 1500 is to high for me to lift 350lbs straight up by my self.

When that motor is done it will have 800flywheelhorsepower and 700 rearwheelhorse power. If i could put something like that in a 15foot R/C plane that thing would fly.

Sukhoi_Madness 02-15-2005 04:25 AM

RE: Relearn to fly.

How exactly did you lift 400lbs?

There's something about American Cars... I hate them... but on the other hand... (Read: Cast Iron V8 with 700HP) you just gotta love them...

I guess it's the American Dream...

LOL

Good Luck... If you would like to here something more nasty than you engine go stand next to a Full scale Mustang when it takes off... (Yes the Airplane not the Car) Your Fire Breathing V8 will look like a .20 Glow Motor next to the Mustang...

Have fun...

Matt

I had to put my hands in the jugs and lift to the egde of the door seel. I had to bear huge the block and pick it up.

I dont think it would count if i put my motor up next to a P51 motor. I think the brad and witny is a big block with a 12cylender.

Why dont u like American Cars. I love the sound of a V8 with a nasty cam. They are and always will be the king of the drag strip. I dont see any of those Supras running 8 second 1/4 miles.

Heres a supra joke for you.

What does a 400hp supra and a 1000hp supra have in common

11 second time slip.

Sukhoi_Madness 02-15-2005 05:23 AM

RE: Relearn to fly.

Yes 12... Very Phat...

I do like American cars, but in a different way to how I like Euro cars for example... There is only one place a real Muscle car comes from and that is the US... and they rock... Even though they won't go around corners...

It's interesting you mention the Drag strip stuff... Personally I kinda think Drag racing is about as entertaining as seeing how far you can pixx on a windy day... but each to there own on that one... Just it leaves me cold...

Over here in New Zealand and also in Australia Jap cars are the norm and it is not unusual to see a street 4 Banger pulling a 9-10 down the srip... The best Rotors are in the 7-8 range these days... RX-7 Tubs or RX-3 Tubs usually...

Still these figures take a lot of work...

I probably should have said I don't rate Muscle cars instead of I don't like them... And rating is wholly Subjective of course...

Good luck with your Airplane...

Matt

Aww New Zealand i did not see that. What i realy like about American muscle cars is that i can run a 8-9 pass and then drive the car home and around town. Most of the realy fast jap cars are on trailors all of the time.

Also i am going to just bite the bullet and buy a trainer.

Yes, I would have to agree with that... Any Japa pulling low 10's and under is usually only for Drag duties... The really quick ones tend to be tubbed Rotors and so are of course not for shopping in...

Yeah man... Buy the Trainer... If in the first week you can fly a perfect inverted circuit and dead stick it in without fault call me a banker with a W, but I think you will appreciate the time you do on a trainer just to get the feel again...

Matt

P.S. I am not sure if "Aww" is a good thing or a bad thing but NZ is not too bad... [8D]
