My RC Future...Jets
Well, im a beginner, but like all beginners, we tend to look out well beyond our rc capabilities. Im no different. I love downloading movies, but mostly jets. Im in love with BVM. Now here is the question that will spark differnt interests:
What planes would you recommend getting in order to get well enough to be flying jets, excluding trainers. So for example: 1) Trainer 2)------- 3)-------- 4-any other plane)------,------,----- And finally) BVM King Cat I know this is a hard quetion to understand, and if you dont, PM me. Thanks, Mike. PS: I know that i should choose planes that will fit my skill and confidence, but on an average, what plane? |

I would take a Goldberg Tiger 2 as a second plane. It has a nice rep and flys very well. master that and if you think your pretty good, give one of those Kangke F-20's a shot.

Trainer (I taught myself with an electric glider)
Tiger II low wing Patriot ARF ducted fan like BVM Viper (most guys are skipping DF these days, turbines have gotten more populer than almost anyone anticipated) BVM Bandit or Kingcat (bandit is much faster if you like speed, I have had 3, building another now) |

I was lookin myself and have to sa that the goldberg mid wing might just do it for once, buyt after that i think a nice cheap dtfn would be that blue angel you see on the market today,
HET FA-18 (Hornet) yeah that one. After that i think its just save tiwce the money for a kangaroo, just in case i crash. About two years work huh? |

I will go out on a limb here and also suggest that you try building from a kit (perhaps the Tiger II) as a first build. The reason is that (IMHO) you will get some additional skills for your toolbox and be ready for the additional complexity of jets..
+ I am always trying to get people to build more planes from kits plans, or scratch (it's my mini agenda) |

don't you have to demonstrate compentency on a 100+ mph plane to get a jet waiver? might want to keep that in mind also...

I aslo like kits, but from where i live, i dont have room for it. I live in an apartement, so i can only afford arfs. If i were to buy a jet, i wuold by one here on the rcu market. Has to be small thats why i recommended that HET FA-18 (Hornet) as an accomplished plane because seeing the video really kicks ass!

The only problem with getting those high perfomace elec. d/f is the cost of getting all that elec stuff.
Since i've gone turbine, I'll let this cat out..... Go to autions/swap meets ebay to get d/f. cheaper than buying it all new. and some is still new. If you master a good higer perfomace plane, you could go to a modified Balsa usa enforcer for you 1st jet. handles like the prop version..TIL YOU GO FULL THRT the its GOOOONNNNEEE. any thing byron fan powered is usually a good plane. when you get there start looking for a fellow jet flyer to help or you'll make it harder on yourself. |

I would suggest that somewhere in that lineup you get a good pattern plane, will teach you the ins and outs of a faster plane with fast response.
Check on the AMA website for the requirements for a turbine waiver..... Andy |

and do you have a place to fly them....... not many local fields have the space |

All of the responses SO FAR are positive and real.
The fundamental VALUE of your post is that it shows that you have set a GOAL for yourself. Different strokes for different folks is true, some dream of JETS like yourself, some GLIDERS, some go for competitio AEROBATICS then the FIGHTERS, Worl War I Biplanes, etc etc. With more than 30 years of flying experience, the very fastest plane I ever flew was the PATRIOT with a supercharged tuned pipe. I did not like the experience even though I had flown aerobatic pattern for years. I guess I don't have the need for speed. Again our BRITISH colleague VOLKAN has given sage advise. I am guessing that Volkan and Samolot must be very close in age ( 16 ? ) so you understand each other. Keep the dream Cross the bridges as you get to them Turbines and related stuff will come down in price as they get more popular. There already are ARF planes for turbines. IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER. HAVE FAITH. EVERYTHING COMES TO THOSE WHO WAIT. RICK |

Runway question concerning jets.
What is a minimum runway size and what runway material is recommended? Also do most clubs list their runway capabilities in their literature? Yea, I know those are off the wall questions. I've just had too much chocolate this morning! Thanks. DaveP |

runway needed is per what jet you fly. some are grass capable
here's a sport jet at 5600' alt ..about 200' also grass capable depends on power/weight also |

RICK Im just about to finish the thorjet website, im getting there F20 kit for cheap!, and already got my OS91+ Ramtec, Maybe, bye the time in finished building the F20, I can afford a MW44/55 for it, instead of the 91 + Ramtec, I make alot of cash by making websites + reseller PC Parts, (im young, so cannot charge much, thats whats gets me customers, but the sites I make are worth £1000/£2000, especally the mail orders ones i put togeather, but i only charge between £50-£400). You need to fund a turbine, and dont let go of the dream, make it a reality with DF, and when you have the cash, get a turbine. Besides, the older we get, the more cash we get, and the cheaper turbines get! Second hand MW44/54 is only about £800-£1000!
