Need some good wheels.

Hey guys. I've got a few airplanes that I'd like to replace the tires on. So far, I've been using the foam tires that come with ARFs. Foam tires and an asphalt runway aren't the best combination. So, I tried a pair of Dave Brown rubber wheels. I'm not happy with these because of how hard they are. I'm looking for some rubber wheels that will absorb the shock of landing, and the minor bumps on our runway. The Dave Brown wheels I have are just way to stiff. Maybe something with a hollow, or softer kind of rubber. Any suggestions?

I've been using the threaded rubber wheels put out by Du-bro for about 8 years now and I don't any any complaints. I fly off an asphalt runway as you do and have never had any problems with the wheels from Du-bro.

Hope this helps.

Dubro makes good wheels that will absorb energy pretty well, but they are fairly heavy. Probabaly on the order of 2-3 times heavier than their foam counterparts, given the same size wheel. They are also wider. I found this out when I installed a dual strut front gear in my contender, and the 3 1/2 inch dubro wouldn't fit between the struts. Had to go to a smaller tire, but will eventually replace with foamies!

Ditto on the Sky-Lites. I automatically buy a set whenever I buy a plane. Usually a 1/4" to a 1/2" larger than what comes with the plane.

I like the Sullivan Sky-Lites too. DuBro Treaded Lightweight wheels aren't bad either....but have a tendency to start spliting after a while.
