glow plug for thunder tiger 46
ive bought a thunder tiger 46 and was wondering if there is a special glow plug for it. or will the glow plugs i use in my os fx 46 work also?

Tower Hobbies plugs also work very well with the TT.

I have quite a few TT Pro .46's, and I've found that Fox Gold Long Plugs work fantastic in them. I'm using Omega 15% fuel.

I don't have a TT Pro, But if I did I would use a OS #8 Same that I
use in my 46FX.... They have last for ever for me... Not so when I tried others JMO... |

I bought a new TT 46 about three years ago and put it in a new WM Supersports 40S, which I am still flying. The engine instructions recommended a hot R/C long, "...such as K&B or OS #8."
I began using K&B plugs because they were cheaper. They worked just fine, and each one lasted a very long time, summer or winter. I broke the engine in with 10% Power Master, and then switched to 15% Cool Power, which I now prefer and use exclusively. I wore out and replaced the bearings last summer with upgraded Boca Bearings. Then last winter the back of the muffler fell off in flight. I replaced the muffler with a Tower Hobbies semi tuned muffler. The engine is a real powerhouse, now! Then I read this thread and decided to try an OS#8. (I have an old OS 40 four stroke, and the OS F is the only plug that works well in it.) However, the OS#8 in the TT 46 lasted less than a dozen flights! It may have run slightly better with the OS -- hard to say. I put a used K&B back in it, and it is working just fine so far. Go figure! It has been very hot here lately. Maybe the OS #8 is a little too hot of a plug with the upgrades and the very hot air? I just ordered some more K&B plugs. |

I use the OS A3 in my TT Pro 46 with Omega 15%. Starts easy, runs super, no dead sticks, idles reliably at 2760 rpm with a 12x4 APC prop, max rpm at 13,000.

I Don't mean to bump this old thread but I didn't wanna create a new one, when One exists on the topic.
Does this engine absolutely need a hot plug like the A3 or medium-hot like the OS8? I got about a dozen LC3 Long-Reach hot plugs left over, These are brand new still in packing and I was wondering if this engine (TT Pro 46) would like it? Thank you Mo |

I have 3 TT Pro engines - one .61 and two .46s. The .61 and one of the .46s are about three years old with about 10 years of flying on them. The other .46 is fairly new. Since TT engines don't come with a plug I used what was on hand which happened to be an OS8. All three engines have the first plug I put in them still in them. THey run flawlessly and start with one flip of the cihcklet stick. I don't think any of them has ever dead sticked outside of trying to wean it of fuel.[8D]. I might add I think the TT Pro engine is the absolute best buy on an engine out there. I own Tower, OS, Saito, and TT engines, of these TT Pro is my pick

I guess I was thinking the average flyer is at the field about 1/2 a day per week.My sons and myself were at the field 7 days a week. Our little rual field is about 10 minutes from home so after work we would go fly untill it was too dark to see. We looked foward to Saturdays because we could spend the entire day there. On Sundays we would go to church, go home, and then go fly until time to go back to church. I have said all this in past tense because we have had to slow down some. For 2 1/2 years all we did was work/school and fly. We have had to come back down to earth and realize that there is a life outside of R/C:( (Oh know did I say that!!!!) We now only fly 2 or 3 days per week. But we still get all of our chores done so we can spend the entire day flying on Sarurday.

That's great to hear. I did TONS of reading on this forum.
I love the search button lol (thus how I came upon this old thread). One of the best combos for the money seemed to be the Avistar paired with the thunderTiger so I went with it. Now back to my question.... Should I try the Hot Long reach like the LC3? or will my engine not like it? I'll be using 15% OMega. Thunder Tiger recommends 10% for breakin so I might buy the 5% and mix it with 15% at 50/50 to get 10%. Both are Omega with 17% total and 70/30 of that Syn/Castor. I'll be adding 3-4oz of Castor to the gallon mix to bring up to around 20% oil. |

Try it and see, not much to loose. If the engines will start, idle and transition well, it's a fine plug for them. Since you've got long plugs, I'd suggest carefully turning the engine over by hand to ensure the plugs aren't so long they contact the piston, but I doubt that would be an issue. it can be for some engines from what I understand.

As long as your piston doesn't hit it I would think you will be fine.
Take your head off and see how far the plug pertrudes? |

Not necessary, short plugs are designed for engines smaller than .20 cu in. Any .40-size or larger glow engine will like long plugs without any concern.
Also, using an extra copper ring on your glow plug will lower your compression. This won't be desirable under normal operating conditions. Long plugs and idle bars aren't a problem on the TT Pro .46 |
