How long has the ax been in production and how do they perform? Are they bearing or bushing?

I think they have been around a bit over a year now and it is a ball bering supported crank.

I have had my AX for a little over a year. It runs nice, and puts out a good amount of power. It is a ball bearing engine.

Actually I beleve Vdubin's question was how long has the 'AX' been around. OS has been marketed in this country since the late fifies and I have a few including an OS type 11 pulse jet engine that I purchased at a LHS in Hollywood.

You must be referring to the "Mostly Don't Start" or "Metal Door Stop". [8D]

Vdubin If you do a search over in the glow engine forum you will find a lot of info about the MDS, both pro and con. They seem to have had a somewhat tarnished history and I don,t beleve Horizon Hobby still imports them.

At this point, the only engine in the OS AX series is the .46AX. It replaced the OS .46FX.

The AX is a top-of-the-line, mid-sized engine. It has good power. It is very high quality, very reliable, easy to start and easy to adjust. It is more expensive than the Chinese engines of the same size and you'll need to make the judgement at to whether it is worth the extra money.

Sorry to change the subject,but do you think an OS.91 FX benefits enough from a Perry to justify doing it?

I have two OS .46 AX's. Wasn't all that much to break them in. And basically, once you set the high end needle a few clicks towards the rich end at max throttle, you never really have to fool with it. I run both of mine on Byron 10% fuel....although I may start using 15% (the green color'd stuff). I also run an 11x6 prop on them. They are about 20 bux more than a TT Pro and Magnum but OS has just a tad bit more quality built in.

They started making engines in 1936, but I don't know when they started marketing in the use.
