Large Second Plane.
 

I have been looking around lately for a second plane as a kit. I want something big...
I am thinking about:
Sig 4*
Goldberg Tiget 60
Tower hobbies Uproar
Sig Astro Hog
Lanier Stinger

I also would like to look at the brands that aren't at tower....

Just comment on the above and be honest because i want a good seond plane/first kit.

The Sig 4*60 and a Goldberg Tiger 60 are both excellent second planes. You can't go wrong with either of those two.

Im building a 4*60 right now (takin it slow...still learning to fly with the nexstar) and aside from making a mistake an thinking a peice (trailing edge of hor. stab) was scrap, it has gone alone smoothly...

Check out the T-Rex by Mosquito Bite Planes (www.mosquitobiteplanes.com). At 85" span it's plenty BIG. The kit is fantastic with some of the best laser cutting I've ever seen. It goes together simply and quickly, though not always in the traditional manner (In fact, some things in the kit are a "leap of faith") You can build it in several different arrangements of power type, landing gear, floats, flaps or not, etc. It's worth a look. The price is decent too. I built one earlier this winter. I haven't flown it yet, but the weather is getting nicer, so SOON I'll be able to tell you about that too.

My thoughts on some of the planes. 4* 60, way too floaty for a second plane! Could be used as a 60 size trainer due to its extremely slow landing speed if an instructor is paying half attention. Tiger 60, great choice! Flys with a wide speed range and has a more positive landing approach than the 4*. Astro Hog, plane flys nice but has a heavier feel to it on the sticks compared to the first 2. Its also a builders type kit, comes with big square blocks of balsa. Anything that doesn't look like a part of the plane you sand, carve, slice, chip, or chew away until the plane shape emerges! :D

I'll be the Fifth to recommend the 4* 120, if you want BIG, if you want next size down go with the 60. Perfect second airplanes. Tiger 60 is a darn nice plane also, you can't go wrong with any of them mentioned in this thread. Good Luck.

Yep, my first build...and im moding it...ive sheeted the turtledeck...andim going to invert my saito 91 and make a custom cowl...

Though i havent flown it yet....im still on my nexstar...everyone i talk to say they love it, it floats on landings, but is very responsive in flight (guy at the feild had a 72 2-stroke in it and was 3D-ing it....very nice...not to mention the 10 foot vertical takoff....

and with flaperons, he put it down on about 15 feet of pavement...

Newb! Get the Tiger 60, It's my fav plane in my hanger (of 6) now. Flies like a dream! Plus, you can get the deluxe kit with retracts. S*W*E*E*T!!!

4*60 would be a great second plane if you wanted to go larger...the 4*40 if you wanted to use the same engine out of the Nexstar. If you build the wing at full width it will float like a trainer. But build it shorter by one or two bays on each wings and it will be perfect. There is also available now the Venture 60 which was designed by Bruce Tharp that designed the 4* series before he left Sig. the Venture is a better plane that the 4*.

I'd have to mention the Venture 60 just because it's been mentioned to me. It's designed by the guy who originally did the 4*40 and 4*120 and is his idea of how a 4*60 should ideally be.

I went with a Tiger 2, the 40 size. It's a tricycle gear so you don't have to worry about tail dragger "features" when taking off and landing for your first low wing plane. It can be converted to a tail dragger when comfortable. Also, in my opinion, pics don't do the plane justice. It's a very good looking plane!

ok, It looking like the 4*, Venture, or tiger. I am leaning towards the taildraggers though.

Great planes Sportster 60 is a great plane too. Flys awsome and is very stable.
