RX question
 

I accidently chopped my reciever anttenna today on a landing which the gear ripped off, and I was wondering if i need a enw reciever or not about about 2 inches came off

No just have the antenna replaced. you can do it yourself if you have basic soldering skills.

If you have the necessary skills, and tools, to solder on a very small circuit board, go to the manufacturer's web site to see if they tell you the size and length of the antenna wire. If you don't have the skills or tools, send the receiver to the nearest service center, manufacturer, or somewhere like Radio South, and have them do it. They will make sure the receiver is working up to spec after they install the new wire. Personally, I would send it in. The cost of having it done right is minor compared to the cost of losing an entire plane, and even worse, possibly injuring someone, because the receiver wasn't working right.

If the antenna wire is still solidly soldered to the board and you just cut off a piece, you can solder it back on. Just make sure that the total length of the wire is between 39 and 41 inches for best reception.

If you don't have the original wire, you can buy antenna wire from www.towerhobbies.com or www.servocity.com or many other places, but you can use almost any light wire I am told. The wire is not critical, the length is.

ok thanks for the replies everyone, I just EMAILED great plane/futaba and they will prolly tell me not to replace, but i dont know...

I've had to splice the antenna on my JR Rx, and I have no problems whatsoever with it. As was said above, as long is the total length is between 39 and 41 inches, you will be fine. Of course, this all hinges on whether or not you know how to solder well or not. If not, find someone who does and let them do the splice for you. Then put a piece of heat shrink over the splice and you will be good to go.

ok, my friends dad can solder good, so i will let him do it. I might even have enough right now, b ut will check this afternoon when i get to school. I may be RTF right now which would be AWSOME. Anyways. Can someone give me the 4 basic channels and what channel they are on? I need to know cause i took out all the servos connected to the RX

It's in the manual. You can just plug one in and wiggle a stick and see what moves. Then you will know what channel THAT output is on. Plug the appropriate servo into that position and verify operation. Plug in another servo and repeat the previous procedure until done. With only 4 channels it shouldn't take 5 minutes.

If you are flying Mode 2 (ail & elev on the right side stick, throttle & rudder on the left), the sequence is:

Ch1 -- Aileron
Ch2 -- Elevator
Ch3 -- Throttle
Ch4 -- Rudder

That's assuming that it's a Futaba or Hitec radio set. JR is different.

You are quite right. As its a Superstar RTF, I assumed that it has the standard Futaba 4Ch TX & R127DF Rx, but it could be something else.

ok, i am going to have to add some length. It is 34.5. I will have it done by the wedsday most likely, depends if i order, or just buy it local.

Thin servo wire works fine, but radio shack should have something suitable.

My mom picked up the wire at the LHS and my instructor will solder soon. Thanks for the replies
