Looking for a first/second airplane
 

I got an Hanger 9 Xtra Easy with a field box radio and everything needed for a day at the field. I got all this for 80 bux!:D
the engine is a MDS 40
It came with a JR 421 computer radio.

I got 3 flights out of this plane. Killed it on the forth. (newb trying to fly in to much wind)
I have been flying on Real Flight G2 for about a year.

My question is: should I just by a tower hobbies MK II trainer for 60 bux and install my gear in it or would something else be more suitable?
My flying area is pretty rough terrain. ( the accasional tracter rutt)

The Tower Mark II trainer would do just fine. Its a good trainer, exactly what you need. Question...did you solo without an instructor? If so, congrats. Its harder than it seems, even after some simulator time. My advise would be to buy the trainer and while flying, start working on your next airplane. A Sig 4* or something similar.

You might want to consider getting a better engine. Some brands have been good for years now such as Thunder Tiger or OS. Some wern't great like ASP but newest version is impressive. MDS have been poor performers for years and the current ones don't seem to be any better.

The rough field will take its toll on any balsa airplane. You might want to look at one of the tougher trainers like a spad, duraplane, sturdy birdie, etc. They are also pretty cheap. Check out the spad forum and see if there is something there you like.

I did solo my first time out.



Anybody else got sugestions for a plane that will take lots of abuse.

I purchased the Nexstar select. I heard alot of good and bad stuff on this plane. I am also new to flying and flew solo without an instructor. I found the plane to fly very smooth and has some great features. I did turn off the ASF B/C i was afraid it would cause the plane to be unstable. My solo flight, i bounced preaty hard during landing because of the wind. the plane was fine and i just had to replace the prop. The reason I purchased the Nexstar select, is that it looks appealing and after you learn to fly better, you can go beyond the traditional trainer features with this plane.

Congradulations on your Solo Flight!

How bad is the Xtra Easy? Is the wing destroyed? If not you could make your own fuselage. You might be amazed at what ca glue and epoxy can accomplish in repairing the old plane.

Balsa Usa has a stick 40 trainer that is extremely tough also. You might get some ideas from looking at it. One time I did an inverted flat spin that I didn't get out of in time(pancake splat) with a Balsa USA Super Stick and in 40 minutes I was flying again.

I like my super air.
It acctully flew better than my kyosho trainer!!!!!!!
