any tips for uproar 40 kit
 

i wanted to dabble in kit building, (first time kit builder) and in my tower order today (to get it up for extra discounts and shipping) i ordered a uproar 40 kit along with a tt 40 pro. first of all is this a good starting kit for me. and is there any tips that might help things go smoother. also the tt 40 pro good power for that model? i know i should have checked first before i ordered so its to late now. but any pros or cons on these might help!

The TT .40 Pro is the killer in the .40 sport engine class --- it's as good as many .46's & will whizz the Uproar around with considerable authority. Of course if you have reservations, the TT .46 Pro will add a bit more spice for very little more money.

ya i tried to call tower back today and change order for the 46. but they said it was to late. rats!! have you ever built this kit any tips

Cover the tailfeathers before mounting them. The directions say NOT to do this, but that instruction is silly. Unless you love covering inside corners, do it beforehand.

Maybe make slightly larger ailerons. I did. Ditto for rudder, but that doesn't make much flight difference.

Get a round engine mount that will allow you to mount your head at a down angle and have your muffler straight under the fuselage. I wish I had done this.

Don't worry about the engine size the .40TT will be fine. This is a very good second plane and you will be fine. I put landing gear on the top and bottom of mine and land it upside down. About the building, put extra triangle braces almost everywhere you can it want hurt and it want add to the weight much. It's just a little insurance. This plane is a great fun fly plane. ENJOY!

should the wing be covered before gluing in also. and when you say tailfeathers are you talking about the stablizer?

I would suggest that you "glass" the fuel tank area, especially near the firewall. The balsa fillets are just not enough.

One of our club members built the 40. He said he'd leave the cap strips off of one wing until it was installed if he ever built another. Working the finished wing through the opening was tough for him. I definitely agree with covering the stabilizer and fin before installing them. I don't think you could cover the wing before installing it.

I'm almost finished with an Uproar 60. I added triangle stock under the stabilizer because the gluing area didn't seem very big. The plans already called for triangles where the fin glues on. The 2-56 pushrod wires seemed too tiny for the big control surfaces so I used 4-40. I used Dubro #867 control horns and Dubro #818 safety lock clevises.

hey guys thanks for all your tips. man i just looked at the insturections sure does seem complicated. do i really need a building board and use the pins and wax paper and all that stuff?

Yes - Wax paper keeps the glue from sticking to and ruining your plans. The building board/T-pins help keep the materials straight as parts are aligned and glued into position.
