SSE Way 2 Fast, Help

Hey, I flew the SSE toda and it was WONDERFULL but the problem I had was its going to fast even on very low idle. I need to know what size prop should I use to slow this baby down? The engine i'm using is a OS .46 FX.

11x5 would be a good prop to slow that plane down. that's what I fly on mine

I was using the Master Airscrew 11x5 G/F Nylon Propeller On landing its still somewhat Comming Fast, our runway is small and I can manage but it would be nice if I can slow it down a tad bit. The one I also tried was a 12x6 and it was still fast.

Move down to a 11x4 or 11x4.5. what brand of prop are you using? APC props usually don't slow down as well as Master Airscrew, and those don't slow down as well as wood.

The one that was recommend to me was a 12.25 X 3.75 APC. what you think?

Big prop, low pitch will slow it down nicely. That should work just fine.

Sounds good, I will give it a shot.

Agreed but your ground clearance is going to be very close with a 12.25X3.75 prop just make sure the tail stays down on takeoff. It will slow nicely and great vertical

The 11X4 Zinger wood would be good and also you may have your idle to high

the 12.25 would be nice... better torque for the .46...

that is the prop I use on mine

To get better clearance for the larger prop, you can use the landing gear off of a 4* or some aftermarket ones that you can get at the hobby store.

I never had any problem with 11X5 props and I have a .46 on mine. I don't know why anyone would want to use the 12.25X3.75 on this plane.

It may seem strange but for a while, until you get used to the plane, put on one of the Alpha 3-blade trainer props. They don't go fast and really slow down good. I don't know if you would want the 40 or 60 size. If you consider it, someone else here might be able to suggest which one. I don't know what your ground clearance is.

Just a thought. ;)

Well i'm back and let me tell you this plane , I love it! I used the 12.25 X 3.75 APC and compared to the other props this thing slows down slower than a trainer! Its incredible and i'm very happy with it. You guys gotta try this size prop I dident know a prop has so much affect on a plane till today lol. Thanks again.

NJ,

That prop is arguabley one of the best 3D props for a 46 size engine and a few of the 56 size 4 strokes. Monster pulling power and lots of braking effect.. I have used them on my OS46's and Saito 56's and 72's

Glad you like it. [sm=thumbup.gif]

12.25 X 3.75 APC on a Saito .72? Is that really enough prop to keep the RPM's down?

RE: SSE Way 2 Fast, Help

I use a 11 x4 on mine as my OD /46sf has trouble turning the bigger props. Wjile the SSE does lands nice and slow you really have to have it throttled back way before you make your final turn my SSE will maintan flight speed a few clicks above idle. Also have you used the flapperons on your SSE it will sink when you hit the flaps so be sure to hold some up elevator (or if you have a nice computer radio just mix it in) they also will help slow the plane down for landings.

Yeah, for a 3d funfly, which the sig certainly isn't.
