Hey Guys. Everyone here has been a great help from the beginning of me getting into this wonderfull hobby. I got the Sig Something Extra and I love it and cant wait till tomorow to bring it out.. But I feel I am ready to move for a 3rd or 4th type plane if there is one but I am being a little picky. I want the plane to be within 55 inches wingspan or smaller cause I like the fact I can throw the plane in my car or truck with no problem. I Love the .46 engines and would like to stick with them. So what do you guys recommend? I will also do research on my side as well. Thanks.

Hangar 9 Twist at 48 inch wing span...99.00 bucks and a blast to fly. I could put it into the back of my pickup (Ford Ranger) without taking the wing off. An OS45AX with an APC 12.25X3.75 makes it a great plane and it's great to learn 3D on plus it lands slower than any trainer and in a head wind it will fly backwards, cools to see it do that one.

UCD 46. I have one of these and they are timid when you want them to be but can 3D quite well at the flick of a rate switch.

I was thinking of the UCD 46 but not sure if it will perform as good as the twist like bubba mentioned with the .46 engine cause of the size. HHmmm ahhhh.

I have never flown the twist so I can't comment on it. The UCD files pretty good. I have a .91 surpass in mine and it is WAAAAY overpowered. To the point I was considering putting a smaller engine in it. From what I have read they fly well on a 46 two stoke. Afterall they are very light.

Whats up New.. DO NOT get electric man! we make fun of those guys cause only real men burn nitro haha.. But we only joke around offcourse. After you fly the 4star you should get the Sig something extra.. When bubba sais lower the rates on the SE you better listen hahahaha. I had this thing on low rates but when I put it on High.. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeez THE THIng can go wild lol. Its a fun plane.. You should get the same plane as me it would be kewl.

O. I know ur building it.. even though I'm not posting I always look around. I am keeping track of the thread ur going to post updates of your build On.. looking forward 2 that. have you started?

Nope, I think it comes in tuesday. I can't wait. I got all my sutff already. I think i will try a new prop tommrow. I will probably toss a APC after the second flight... It will put some performance on there

There is nothing wrong with MODERN electric planes. I have a couple and they are nice.

I would strongly suggest going to EZone http://www.ezonemag.com/ though and ask some questions there. Be sure to give the manufacturer of the plane AND the motor, ESC and battery suggested. The folks there can tell you if that is a good setup, or whether a different setup would be better.

FWIW - Jets (Both ducted fans and turbines ) WILL REQUIRE a longer take off and landing run, and they will be noticably faster and react faster than MOST prop planes. They can be a real blast, especially if you are into speed. :D

Gotta agree with Minn again on this plane. The Ultra Sport is IMHO the best all around flying plane ever built. Give it a try and you'll be hooked for life!!!

Okay, I'll throw in my 2cents worth. Forget the twist, it is close coupled and not as good as your something extra. I had one, and really didn't like the negative tendanies a close coupled plane has. Almost think H9 tried to steal the Sig design, but screwed it up. The UCD is definitely a great choice if you want neutral, 3D capable. You already had that with you Sig Something extra. If you are really up for it, you can try a Goldberg Matix. It has a swept wing, large surfaces and can cross over into both pattern moves and 3D. It is not as forgiving as the UCD, but it flies a line so staight and pure (pattern design) that it makes old guys like me even look good. I own a UCD .46, Matrix, World Models Fun World 3D120, Funtana .90, two extra's (1/4 & 33%) and really like the matrix the best on calm days with little flying time available. On low rates, anyone can fly it. It knife edges with almost zero mix required, out snaps my Giles and Ultimate, and does every pattern move I ask it to. It will also hover, harrier, waterfall and flatspin as good as any of my other bigger planes. I highly recommend an OS .50 SX on a tower muffler and an APC 12X4 prop for unbelievable vertical. There are a couple treads on this plane. I do recommend good servos, but standard servos on six volts will make it work. I am using digitals on mine and it flies like it is on rails. The funtana .46 comes close to this, but can't do the pattern stuff nearly as well.

Like I said, just my 2 cents worth. Want more, it will cost you another cent. Have fun.

Hey Mike since you tried all those planes maybe you can help me out. although I like the Sig something extra, I feel that its somewhat limited in some 3D menuevers because I Feel that even though the ailerons and rudder have alot of throw I think the elevator is limited and you cant due certain things or its not as forgiving to do certain 3D menuevers with it. I am lookign for a very forgiving plane that flys nice and is very capable of 3D menuevers. I tried the Funtana 40 and I liked it.. What do you think about the UCD 46? is the matrix better?

I am looking for a nice 3D plane.

I really enjoy the Yak 3D Version in the flight simulator not sure if that really is consistant with that plane?

Sorry I didn't get right back to you. Work keeps getting in the way of my obsession, er habit, er hobby. You really can't go wrong with a UCD .46. I flew mine with an old .46FX on a tower .46 muffler. I used APC's 12X4, 12.25X3.75, and 11.5X4. For hovering I liked the first two, but at my field, with rough grass runway, the thin tips on the 12X4 suffered, so the later two "wide" blades held up better.

I now have a .50SX with a tower pipe in the UCD, but truthfully, there is only a little more power than the .46 with the pipe, I mean tower muffler. We have several real aces on 3d (nationally competitive, unlimited freestyle guys) that love this plane for fun 3D flying. They are all using the new OS Hype .50 helo motor with 30% nitro, which allows them to hover at around 50-60% throttle and rocket out like a home sick angel. I had a .91 4S on one of mine for a while, hovered like a champ, but the extra weight made a little difference in some of the more demanding stuff. You could spend the money and get a Saito .91 or 1.00, swing a 15X4 prop and have allot of fun with this, if you want to spend money. But the lighter, more powerful 2S's seem to be the weapon of choice for the serious 3D guys around here.

I love my matrix, because I am just as much into pattern type aerobatics as 3D. The matrix flies unbelieveably straight lines, and does the pattern stuff on par with larger planes. I reward myself with pattern practice, by throwing the high rates on and doing harriers, waterfalls, tumbles and unbelieveably wild snaps with this plane. The matrix is not as forgiving as the UCD on high rates, a little higher wing loading, and can fly fast, too fast if your not careful with throttle management.

If this is only your third plane, I might recommend the UCD, because it is a 3D trainer, cost a little less, and there are many threads out there concerning setting this plane up. You can get away with std servos on this plane, just make sure your control hardware is very tight, with no play. The Futaba 3010,s have plenty of torgue for rudder and ailerons and the std 3004's will do fine on the elevator halves.

Thank you, I have made up my mind and with good recommendations from you guys and at my local field, I will get the UCD with a .46 ax engine. Thanks!

P.S I was thinking of selling the Sig Something Extra, Its like new. Just the body without any servo's or receiver. Email me here on RCunverse if anyones' interested, including the OS. 46 FX engine. It only has 2 and a 1/2 gallons through it, Like new.

You may want to hang on to the FX, since they aren't made anymore. They are very strong, reliable engines, and hard to beat. You most likely won't get much for it used, but I would keep it for later projects, or back up for the AX. I believe the tower muffler will fit the AX as well, but don't have any first hand experience. Maybe someone else can let you know. You definitely want the extra flow this muffler gives .46 to .52 engines that it is compatible with.

Make sure you beef up your fuselage on the UCD, if you fly off of grass. It is weak and will eventually break out, but is easily repaired and made stronger after it gives way.

You know one plane that I havent heard about and it seems pretty nice and has a 52 inch wingspan is the lLANIER RAZER 3D ARF I wonder if thats a good smaller size 3D plane as well? anyone fly this one?

NJ, Don't sell your plane. Get a fleet going. Thats what I am doing. I plan to have a hangar of planes and take all to the field.
