CA Glue
Okay...while working on my trainer, this is a list of stuff I CA'ed to the floor...
2 screwdrivers 2 screws 1 drill bit 2 pairs of wire cutters 1 pair of long nose pliers 1 hobby knife blade 1 3/8" drill 1 ruler 1 airplane tire 1 RC truck 1 fingernail (glued tip of finger nail to outer edge of finger. OUCH!) Can you say, "Dead when your mom comes in here."... I just thought I'd share my experience so others will be more carefull with CA... |
RE: CA Glue
I only use CA when I have to.
Eventually you'll most likely become alergic to it if you build models very long. Enjoy, Jim |
RE: CA Glue
WOW! That's an impressive list... well done! :D
|
RE: CA Glue
I already have histamine...so I bought one of those Ionic Breeze things...the compact one...works really good exept the buildup on the grid...
Wow...one more thing to be allergic to... |

RE: CA Glue
I'll second the carpenters glue. Lighter, stronger, CHEAPER, and cleans up much easier. Plus- you can get your tools back if you spill! :)

RE: CA Glue
Umm...how bad is this CA glue allergy?

RE: CA Glue
As I said above, I haven't been bother yet. But I have seen people that have had trouble breathing for days after exposure to CA. It can cause pretty serious breathing problems. I've know one guy that needed to go the emergency room because he couldn't breath.

RE: CA Glue
ORIGINAL: FOD MAN Has not been a problem for me but it has done great harm to my dog. he cannot stay in my shop anymore, here is some before and after photos of him. For the CA, I use a filtered mask and have a fan blowing the fumes out of the shop. I learned the hard way. Right after a lot of building, I coughed and coughed, my chest hurt, etc. I could not figure it out. The next day here on RCU I read about how CA could cause those things. This forum may have just saved my life! Thanks all! |
RE: CA Glue
My allergy has developed to the level that I have to use very small amounts at any one time. I try to use titebond wood glue for most of my construction. However, when I must use CA, and if it is any substantial amounts, I use a respirator. Even if I breathe in just a little, my lungs ache for a couple of days. I would also recommend using a fan to keep the air moving, and be careful how close you get while applying it. It is real easy to forget and get your head right over the area you are trying to glue, and then it's just a matter of time until you breathe in at the wrong time.

RE: CA Glue
Well, I have the ionic breeze sucking in the fumes and I'm on the other side breathing in ionized air. :D Kinda smells like plastic, the ionized air...and I reach around the breeze to glue. :D

RE: CA Glue
No one has asked it yet so I will. How in the heck did you manage to CA all those items to the floor?
|
RE: CA Glue
1 airplane tire model or real size? |
RE: CA Glue
damn how did that airplane know to land beside you when you spilled some glue. It sure must have surprised the pilot when his plane came to a sudden stop! Hey its a good thing you didn''t glue yourself to the ground. That would have been funny.

RE: CA Glue
I almost glued the fingers together, but caught myself bfore i did.
On the allergy note, I can do fine but today I haven't been feeling well and my nose is messed up. I was so into my biulding i didnt take a break yesterday, but i am going to today because i am beginning to feel bad from yesterday. I will also runt he fan on high if it warm enough today :-d |
RE: CA Glue
At least you know where to find your tools. If I would just clean up my bench and organize my tools so I could fine them I could slash building time in half.
|
RE: CA Glue
Maybe people who have asthma are proned to having allergic type reaction... just a thought.
I've glued with CA in a very small room for hours and I never had any breathing problems...but I must admit, it was doing something to my eyes (Itching, red eyes). |
