What is the level of difficulty on this plane?
 

The plane is a Yak-3 .40 size Sport Scale made by redstar. Also I have never heard anything about Redstar kits. Anygood?

Would this make a good 3rd plane? 2nd kit?

It looks like it would make a good winter project that I could do. Just need to know the difficulty on flying it. Can't find that anywhere.

Assume it is going to fly like a typical warbird - AKA "flying Brick" - and you will be safe. If you feel you can handle a flying brick go for it.

I just glanced at the thread you linked to, and to the Redstar site. They claim the plane is a 55" wingspan with a loading of around 18 ounces. If it actually comes in at that, it should be a pretty docile plane.

Of course, wing loading alone won't let you predict things like tip stalls, that'll depend more on the wing's planform, washout or lack of, etc. But I'm guessing it should be a fairly easy plane to fly.

I see the guy building it in that thread had a pilot error on maiden while landing, nothing major. He said it was his second plane. Had a stall about 10ft over the runway. Said it flew nice otherwise.
He did a nice job building it.

I noticed it uses Hobbico mechanical retracts. Well these give me problems on a grass field?

From my experience, almost all retracts will give you problems on a grass field. Well, let me clarify that a big. Maybe not true problems, but you definitely have to check/adjust them more often flying off of grass.

Well, I sold my machinist tools yesterday. I figured before a blow the money on something like bills I better get a kit. So I am now the proud owner of a Yak-3:D

Winter project? Let's see, In Wisconsin that means you will be starting on it in July if I'm correct. I see no reason not to, no matter what the temperature. How is the Rapture doing?

Heck, from the forcast I could start it this weekend if I had it[:o]
I just got done cleaning off my workbench from my last repairs on the Tower trainer. If the forcast holds true I will start covering the Rapture this weekend.
I guess I am feeling a bit more confident in my flying abilities that I should start thinking about the maiden flight.
My original goal was 4th of July but that may be moved up barring any setbacks.
I am actually landing now without having to put something back together or staightening the landing gear every other attempt.
Still got a ways to go though.
Jeez, just thinking about the maiden and my knees start shaking[X(]

Like I have said before, for a self taught pilot you are doing fine. You have a tight and rough field to deal with and that doesn't help. Take pride in your accomplishments and determination and enjoy.
