Help with aileron hookup!
 

I have an edge 540 (The Judge) from hobbylobby.com. This plane uses one servo each for the ailerons. The radio system is the Hitec Flash 5 with Hitec micro servos H55. Do I need to use a Y connector hooking right aileron servo to left aileron servo and plug Y into the aileron channel? OR, Hook one servo to channel 1 (being aileron) and hook the other aileron servo to channel 5 ( being gear or aileron/elevon or flap/flaperon ) omitting the Y connector? I am new to all this and never had a 5 channel radio or a plane with two aileron servos. To add more confusion for me, this radio is programmable so not sure how to hook up my ailerons the correct way.
Please help.

Here is the channel assignment:
Channel 1 - Aileron
Channel 2 - Elevator
Channel 3 - Throttle or Flap
Channel 4 - Rudder
Channel 5 - Gear or Aileron/Elevon or Flap/Flaperon Function
If going this route what channel to right and left aileron servos?

You can use either method as you described. The (Y) cord method is simple and obvious that will require no programing effort. That radio will support dual aileron servos though on separate channels. This has the advantage of allowing easier electronic adjustment of the aileron surfaces independantly and allows the ailerons to also be used as flaps or spoilers while still functioning as ailerons. I don,t normally reccomend using flaps or spoilers on a beginners basis as that comes with another set of problems.

You are correct with that Tx to use two aileron servos on separate channels you plug one to channel five. As to which you are going to have to refer to your manual. Basically you want to enable flaperons and this is what you would look for in the book.

spence73... I do not have a radio like yours... But channel 5 would be
used for your second ail... I'm not sure on your radio, but you must
have to activate that channel... You have to read your manual or
call the manf for help... But maybey someone will pipe in:-).. But one
another thing.. You will need a "Y" also to connect your battery to
one of your channels... I don't believe it makes a difference.. But
check your manual to be sure, and will tell you which are LT/Rt!!

Thanks guys for the help. As far as the Y for the battery, I think I just hook the brushless ESC lead to my channel 3 for throttle. Battery goes to ESC then ESC lead to Rx. I think.
Anyone else have any input please post.
