1st build question.

Just recieved my tower trainer kit and after my 1st reading of the instructions I have a question. When building the fuse I will need to mark the location of the engine mount on the bulkhead, but I'm using a different engine(TT46pro) than the plans show. I will not have the engine when I reach this stage so I want to know if I can purchase the appropriate mount to use as a guide and still have everything line up when I do finally mount the engine. Also, any sugguestions for alterations/mods would be great.

Thanks,
ChasW

Mount

Yes, get the mount and use it to mark you firewall. The engine you are going to use isn't that much different, a little heavier though. In fact the present mount might work, check it first.
As to alteration/mods, DON'T get carried away, if this is your first plane best to just build it and FLY it . You'll have plenty of time to ALTER and MODIFY later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jettstarblue, the only change I was contemplating is to build in a little less dihedral. I guess I'm asking if anyone who has built this kit found any faults, inaccurate cut balsa, etc.

Leave the dihedral in. It will help to level the plane when you get out of wack in the air. The dihedral is there to make it easier to learn to fly.

I had this kit a few years back and built it as per the instructions. It taught me to fly. The only problem I had was when the contact paper came apart on the top right wing in the middle of a high speed banked turn and that was end of life for this one. This plane is not designed to handle a hot .46 and that is what I had in it. If you have a good .46 then go easy on the plane by using your throttle to control the speed.

I agree with Matt, your fist plane is not the one to start kit bashing. The dihedral is there for beginners!

I built the kit and everything was in order, leave the dihedral as is. As for the engine mounting question, I ordered a adjustable mount which I was going to use for a OS 40FX, but insted a good friend gave me a TT-GP 42... works just the same. The plane flys great and is very predictable.
