2nd Plane

Hi

I have been flying for about 7 months now with a Airmadilio Trainer which is a tail dragger. I have solo already but my landings are not to pretty sometimes. I wanted to get another plane that actually looks like a plane so I was looking at a Sig-Rascal Forty ARF or a Cessna 182 Skylane ARF. I was woundering if either one of these would be as forgiving for a beginner or a novice. Thanks for any help.

Of (only) those two....the Sig ARF would be much better. Ever consider Midwest's AeroStar .40 ARF? Good looks and flys great - lands slowly too!

I had the chance to see a Skylane ARF fly
a few nights ago. Lands pretty fast, maybe it would be a better third plane. It didn't act like it was very forgiving in the air either compared to a lot of other choices.

You already have high wing trainer experience so why bother going to another one? I would look at some easy to fly low wing planes. There are some low wing planes that are more forgiving than the high wing planes you mentioned, are aerobatic and easy to land. Carl Goldberg Tiger2 or a 4* fourty will make you come home from the field smiling. Both have excellent low speed handling but will move out pretty quick when you want them to. The Rascal has been known to tip stall if you go too slow and the Cessna seems to like to come in hot to land.

I agree with fastsky the tiger 40 or 60 or 4* 40 or 60 would make great 2nd planes I went with a tiger 2, 40 size with a Saito 91 for my second plane. Just don't make it the same color on top and bottom <grinning>. I even think one could use either of these planes as a first plane as long as they have an instructor with a buddy box, as both of these have a lot of trainer like qualities IE exelent slow flight qualities and IMHO land better than most trainers. I still bounce my LT-40 on about 3 out of 10 landings although I have not flown it in about 7 or 8 months. I land my tiger 2 and my new tiger 60 as if on glass every time. Well almost. Got to learn how to make those little smiley faces work in my reply/post.

Thanks

You all helped alot. I do have a friend who taught me to fly and we have a buddy box. At this time I don't think I would try any planes without a buddy box for my first flight or how many flights it would take to feel at ease. Thanks again. Keep it straight and level.

Where in Jacksonville do you fly?
I have a friend that lives on the north side that is interested in learning.

hey Run91:
if you do not want to go to low wing just yet why don`t you try a mid-wing plane such as ugly stick types.-
you will experience a different kind of fun, specialy if you have an instructor to help with basic aerobatics different than loops and rolls.-
think about it!!

Hey Run91 the Advance 40 is agreat plane. We have a nebie in our club that is learning to fly with that plane. Go ahead and hook it up to the buddy box, it's a geart second plane. You'll love it.
