Do you mean the AMA? You may be a member of the AMA and not be a member of an AMA chartered club. You may also find a local club through the AMA and get help learning to fly. Visit their website at http://modelaircraft.org/templates/ama/

If this isn't what you mean let me know.

I have an AMA number and have been a member off and on since 1986. I have never belonged to a local club. I have not found it necessary in my area to do so. I typically fly when most members are not. I have been a local instructor and many times a new flier has wandered on to the field and needed help and I have given my time freely. I am not slamming the local clubs I just don't have time to sit in on the 3 hour meeting to find out five minutes worth of good information. I stay with the AMA because of the insurance. You can not fly at any of the local sites with out it.
