RE: Engine question ?

Depends on the plane, how well it is constructed and how you fly it.

You can have a rocket or a normal flying plane depending on the weight and wing loading.

You can rip the firewall out.

You can litteraly have the plane come apart in midair due to excessive speed, vibration, engine torque, etc.

You can strip servos because you may have no flutter when flown with a 40 size engine, but a 61 flying at speed may put too much stress on pushrods and allow the control surfaces to flutter.

There are many people who successfully overpower a plane, but think about it for a moment - Who knows the plane best ? The person who designed it. They suggest engines of a particular size/range for a reason, and it is normally a good reason.

Or you can have a plane that flies great. It would be good to know the plane in question. I've got a K&B .61 in my .45 size WM P-51. I've had none of the problems Campy said could happen.

RE: Engine question ?

i think a little more power is always good in emergency's but in moderation.the problem is how much more weight it adds to the front end.that makes them come in a little hot and nose heavy.one advantage is you can use a larger prop but landing gear problems might be an issue.look at the design of the kit or model and decide where it might need to be strengthened.most of my models are kits and i always make a few changes we all do.....happy flying
