I passed the solo test
 

just got back from the field. I PASSED MY SOLO TEST!!!!!!!!!! I made two good clean flights by myself, then cut te throttle on my final landing(was actualy finishing my touch and goes going to stop it this time) I cut it just a wee-bit far out(oops), and stalled it into the ground about 30-50fott short of the X on the runway. No damage, but a i almost put it in a full ditch......

Ive actualy been landing and taking off for about two or three weeks now, but my instructor had me take off and land real fast, reached up and pulled the trainer chord and handed me the main radio.....talk about knees knocking together......i kept seeing the plan doing a nose dive right in front of me.......

Now im going to start saving for a new one though. AFTER i get the hang of basic aerobatics, and get comfortable flying it, im going to go TD(semi sym. , airfoil ought to go to TD pretty well and be fairly realistic) and get good landing that way. From there im going to get a nic JETT engineering motor and a larger plane. not wanting the go-fast with the JETT, im just VERY impressed with there performance and workmanship. We had a combat meet sunday that i watched, and i saw an open-b plane with one. that is an exellently built little motor, and i can see investing the extra in a larger one for workmanship. probably going to the .90 or 1.20 size(got to find a plane it will fit on i can fly.....but thats at a minimum X-mas before i start realy looking, much less seriously shopping. I figure i might have a new plane next summer)

That's one nice thing about Texas, year round flying. Sometimes a bit cool or extremely hot but flyable. :D

Congrats on the solo. That's the way I often cut my students loose too. I enjoy watching the fear in their eyes. ERRR I mean, I enjoy seeing their pride when they finish. Yeah, that's what I meant to say. :D

Congratulations on your solo!!!!!!!

But here's some words of advice.. I believe the JETT motor was designed to rev... Therefore doesn't care to sit at idle.. Doesn't like to swing a big prop slow.. But likes to swing a small prop fast and stay wide open.. In my experience this is how they've been. I don't know if this is true with all JETT engines or not..

So If your not wanting to go fast... Check out other motors.. But from what I've seen... JETT is the best of the best to go fast and turn left with!

Congrats i remeber my solo 30 yrs ago like it was yesterday. Now your ready for a Great Planes Tiger Moth this thing flys and lans slow!!!! use a saito 90 and you will have plenty of power mine had a saito 120:D Climbs vertical if i let it way overpowered. Stay away from warbirds for a while get a low wing semi symmetrical airfoil or a selig airfoil and you are on your way

Congrats on the solo flight. It's a great feeling isn't it? Heck, I bet you still have that silly little smile on your face too. But don't worry about it, I had that smile on my face for the first 3 months I was flying.

A solo flight is a great accomplishment and that wins you one genuine RCU ATTABOY (Suitable for framing, wrapping fish, or lining trashcans).

Thanks guys. and i am most DEFINETLY hooked. this is realy a fantasy ive had for about ten years. I got interested right after my dad died, and i took the plunge during the summer. yall have been a great help, and alot of enjoyment in reading since i got interested again :)

Wow, that really is freaky because it's close to my story. My dad and I had been into just about everything RC but planes, including a lot of free flight and control line flying too. While my dad was battling cancer he bought a Tower Trainer 40 combo and was going to learn to fly. Unfortunately he passed away before he got the chance to start flying. I brought the plane home with me and set out to learn to fly. Partly for myself, but mostly for Dad. Even now I always take a moment at the field everyday that I'm flying to say hi to dad, because I know he's there watching me when I fly. I've been flying for 9 years and I still have that trainer. I'll never get rid of it because it was my dad's, and I still take it out and fly it too.

I had performed "solo" flights a few times with the instructor at my side. One day I was flying, and the instructor went over, sat on the bench with his coffee, and told me to "land it". :) I dinged the prop, but it landed right down the center of the field.

Yes, Jett makes racing engines designed for high RPM without concern for idle or transition. Both the QM40 and Q-500 BSE-40 engines have done very well in competition in recent years. Mike Helsel won the Q-500 NATS just a few weeks ago.

However.....
the vast majority engines Jett sells are SPORT engines. All of the Sport-Jett engines idle, throttle, and transition extreamly well. In fact, the Jett carb is one of the most popular after-market parts (used on other engines) that Dub sells.

The design of each is based from the racing development, and as such the engines tend to be bullet-proof and very smooth running. And yes, they tend to produce more power than other engines in their size class.

Jett makes engines for every application imaginable. Yes, some sport engines are available for high rpm and speed applications (but they still idle and transition). There are other engines designed for big props/low rpm used in 3D, scale, and aerobatics applications. The smaller .25 and .30 size combat engines txaggie noted in his original post are a good example of an engine taylored to an application.

For general sport flying with a little 'kick', there is nothing quite like a Sport-Jett .46 with a 10x6 or a SJ-90 and a 12x6 pulling a Kaos or similar around :)

wait, jett makes an aftermarket carb? would said carb be an upgrade?

the carb on my tt.46(wich is an older os carb.....the original one got destroyed in a crash) is messed up bad and is sucking air around the needle valve. Im having trouble inding the right sleeve and needle for this carb, and the other option seems to be buying a parts motor for one. hmm might get the hot rod carb while im trying to fix it(if its better that is)

it is considred an upgrade carb, yes. But it will not increase performance on the TT .46 all that much.

In the case of the TT.46 you are better off getting a replacement TT46 carb. Thunder Tiger make sa good product. Their carb tends to work very well and are not expensive. ( I have a few TT.40 pro engines used for 424 Q-500 racing and they all run very well. )

The jett carb is $75. You can purchase a TT 40 pro for about that :)

Ive seen you post a lot but I never realized you were from Vidor. Im about 20 miles down the road in Nederland. My inlaws live in Vidorville. I go to a lot of fly ins at the Orange club which is where Im assuming you fly... Maybe we can meet sometime at one place or the other and fly. ;)

actualy i fly in beaumont. were basicaly right in the middle, and it was easier for me to get rides to the beaumont field wen i couldnt drive(BIG foot problems earlier in the year). I do know some of the members over at orange, and i think ive met a couple of guys from mid-county. Gimmea yell and we'll get together :)

No, Bob has a big red white and blue 35% Carden Edge, a flip 3D, Funtana 90 and he flies a little red white and blue foamie extra a lot.
