Nexstar build problems
I am assembling my Nexstar and run into a problem. When I install the fuel tank the instructions say to tighten the bolt in the center of the hub where the fuel lines come out. I tighten as much as I dare and the fuel tank just falls out of place. Has anyone had this problem or better yet does anyone have a solution?

RE: Nexstar build problems
Pack foam behind it.

RE: Nexstar build problems
The bolt does not hold the tank in place, it holds the stopper in the tank.

RE: Nexstar build problems
Is it the stopper in the tank that is falling out or is the tank just not secure in the plane?
Tightening the stopper screw will only seal the stopper. Go too much and you could split the tank. If it won't tighten up then the nut plate on the back side is likely stripped. You can get replacement stopper assemblies at most good hobby shops. If it is just the tank not secure in the plane then pack foam around it, glue in a balsa brace or whatever it takes to hold it in place. |
RE: Nexstar build problems
I had this exact same problem in my Nexstar. There's foam already on the cutout of the former/bulkhead which the tank fits through. So packing foam around your tank will make it such that you won't be able to get the tank to slide through the former and into the firewall.
I took a couple pieces of balsa and glued it to the fuse sides just behind where the back of the tank sits. Then I screwed two small cup hooks into it and threaded two #64 rubber bands behind the tank to hold it in place. |
