replace silicon fuel lines, when?

I've heard that fuel lines degrade over time and must be replaced. Is this true and if they do, when should you replace 'em?

Fuel tubing

Lots of variables here. What kind of tubing (brand etc.)? what kind of storage (hot garage // cold basement)? Fuel left in the tank (this will definitely decrease the life)?

Recommended is to replace the tubing at the beginning of each flying season. Fuel dripping in the airframe and possibly shorting the electric connections is not worth the cost (in time / money / or peace of mind).

I'm with Terrell, I have some 10 year old planes with the original tubing. I can only recall a few times when I have seen fuel line that was getting weak or crusty, and it's never been on a regularly used plane but mostly on something that has been sitting for a few years in a basement somewhere.
