Just finished up my Four Star 60 ARF, will maiden her Sunday morning, weather permitting. Evolution .61, 13x6 prop. All Hitec servos and Rx, with a 1650Mah 6v Rx batt. I ditched the stock tailwheel and installed a Sullivan, and 3.5" Sullivan Skylite mains also. Should be a fun plane!:D

Yup, first low wing. Been flying the wings off my LT40 for a while now. I'll try to get some pics at the field this weekend.;)

Good luck. Don't let yourself get freaked out. The 4* will land as easy as your trainer, so just land it like you already know how to. And don't worry, we all have had the bruises on the inside of our knees from them knocking together on a maiden flight. You'll do just fine!!! ;)

Don't sweat it. The 4* is as easy to fly as a trainer -- it even floats more than most trainers, so be ready for a few long landings until you get used to it (unless there is some wind to slow you down). :D

RE: second plane ready to maiden this weekend!
Jus for info: the 4* planes can fly pretty quick but they can also slow to a walk and still be very controllable. If things are too fast and/or getting away from you don't be afraid to throttle down and catch your breath. The planes are real floaters and don't mind putting around the sky. I had a Brightstar that flew similiar and the fact that I could slow it down to relax a bit wihout worry saved the plane more than a few times! The very wide speed range is one of the reasons that the 4* planes are so popular. [8D]

Lowlevlflyer,
Good Luck! I think that you'll love this plane. I just did the maiden on mine last week and I've already put about 12 flights on it. I enjoy flying it much more than my Kadet Senior (although that was a great plane to learn on). I've got a Thunder Tiger Pro 61 mounted horizontal, Bison Pitts style muffler, 12x6 Master Airscrew prop, Sullivan Tailwheel and a Balsa cowl on mine. Here's a couple of pics. |

Looks good! My first choice was the yellow, but I couldnt find one anywhere. Now that I've got the red, though, I like it. How did you make your cowl?

RE: second plane ready to maiden this weekend!
I used 1/8" ply and cut a piece the same size as the spinner, tack glued it onto the back of the spinner with 1/8 inch spacers. Then I built a frame at the firewall using 1/4" balsa sticks and I used some more of the sticks to join the frame to the front plate. I then used 1/4" balsa for the sides and top and put triangle stock in the corners. Then I sanded it to contour and made a 1/16" plywood bottom that is removeable. The whole cowl is screwed to the firewall through the back frame.
