How do you?
When a Aircraft Taxis On the Ground ( Tricycle ) does it have to have a Steerable Nose Wheel?
Or will Rudder Work? |
RE: How do you?
While it's possible to steer it with just the rudder only, you will find that it's too difficult for it to be practical. In order for the rudder to have any effect you have to open the throttle up which will move air over the rudder so that it has something to steer with. Unfortunately the plane will be moving a bit quickly to steer it and then stop it. Your best bet is going to be to have steering on your nose wheel.

all of my trikes had a steerable nose wheel!

RE: How do you?
Trictcle set up will definately need a steerable nose to control direction of plane on ground. Rudder only beconmes effective after forward speedis sufficient. .FWIW

RE: How do you?
When you have had a chance to try different planes you soon realize that tail draggers are easier to set up and the landing gear is much more durable than nose wheel steering. I use Sullivan tail wheel assemblys on all my new tail draggers. Even if a different type is supplied with the kit. They are inexpensive, work well, and its easy to adapt the mounting to most planes.[8D]
