Small scale electric
Hi - I'm looking for some recommendations on a small "scale" electric...
I have an E-Starter powered by an AXI outrunner and a 2c Li-Po pack. Its nice but pretty limited in what you can do. I can fly around, loop, roll, do basic turns, stall turns etc and land this plane easily. It performs well with the AXI but it's pretty boring... I also really dislike foamies (don't flame me, please.) I also have a P51 PTS that I am being instructed on (it's only got he wing extensions on it now and I'll be soloing soon.) I have lots of sim time. I'm looking for a scale electric NON FOAMY to practice with so I don;t have to go out to the field allt he time. I love the new EFlite Edge 540 but I think it may be too much for me... is there anything scale but more of sport plane than a 3D? Would it be possible to fly a 540 on low rates and learn basic aerobatics on it or is that just asking for trouble? What would people recommend as a good 2nd E plane that scale-like (remember, no foamies :) ) Thanks, Chris. |
RE: Small scale electric
The short answer to your question is "yes".
Low rates and a forward CG will make a plane easy to fly. Just don't over do the forward CG or you may end up with a plane that does not have enough elevator throw to flare for a landing at low speeds. Start with your plane balanced at the most forward end of the mfg's recomended CG range and if you find it too tame, make the plane more tail heavy a little at a time If you have a computer radio, you can dial in a lot of exponential. I am using 50% expo on elevator and ailerons on my Ultrafly Outrage, one of those evil foamies that you don't like. |
RE: Small scale electric
are you at all interested in glow powered planes ? they make small to large glow planes. I use to fly electric and like you it became boring. The power on EP planes drops from the the time it leaves the ground and that was all I worried about when flying . ' will I make it back to land'.
To answer your your question , they make scale electric planes so I am sure you can find what you are looking for . GL RCF esq. |
