Covering Question

Does anyone know if the is any kind of software or template that I can use on my PC for designing my covering and trim patern?

What kind of plane?

I went out on the net and searched for a Sig SE and found a two view bitmap of one. I then made copies on my computer and did different schemes with MS-Paint. Nothing fancy. I also printed a few off and hand drew some schemes. The other thing I did on other models was to just hand draw the wing and then do some variations. From these I could get a sence of what looked good and what didn't look good.

I don't know of any specific program that woulddo this for you.

RE: Covering Question

Many instruction manuals have a blank outline of the plane that can be scanned and used in MS Paint as Bill mentioned. Usually, when you do this, you need to spend a little time cleaning up the image so when you fill the outline with color the color doesn't fill the entire screen.

One of my manuals doesn't have the outline so I'm thinking of experimenting by using pictures of the framed up airplane in PhotoShop and creating a second layer over the image to trace the outline.

Hope this helps.

Redwing, it is an LT-40. Thanks for the info! I had thought of scanning but I thought I would ask if there was anything already available for doing this.

Try this...

I made this up in visio. It's not exactly to scale but should work to mark up. Can post the .vsd if you desire as well.

This is what I came up with...

I went with three rows of checkers... the larger the better to view from below. Once it gets up high those checkers if too small will appear to shade the bottom of the wing that color. Also didn't do the cheeks or the bottom of the stabilizer or the accents on the top of the wing. Might revisit doing the bottom of the stabilizer though.

Check out my build thread if you want some ideas on the covering process FWIW.

Good luck!

Hey Thanks somegeek!!! That would be great if you could post the visio file. I just started my LT-40 last night and already have some covering ideas in my head. By the way saw the thread on your build. Your Kadet looks incredible!!!! Hope mine comes out even 1/2 as good as yours.

Thanks man! If you start up a build thread and have specific LT-40 questions I'll try to help answer them. I'm still a noob at all of this.

LT-40 Visio Diagram (2002 Visio format). I have this in Visio 2003 but saved it in an older version just in case. Also added .old to the extension. Sometimes apps will see .vsd and not allow downloading. Just remove that from the file name once downloaded.

Thanks somegeek! It opened up just fine, I am also using Visio 2003. I have already put the file to good use with one of my ideas. [img][/img]

Opinions?

somegeek - You said that you used 3 rows of checkers. Why do I count 4 rows?[sm=confused.gif]

RE: Covering Question

That was my original plan but after reading that a pattern will be less apparent 50-100ft up I pondered it a bit...

I fired up a paint program and pasted some checkers into this image to see how it would look...

...and thought the 4-row kinda dense but liked the 3-row pattern so I installed that:

I'm glad I went with the larger checkers after seeing her in the air.
