cg question?
Hi all,
my fuel tank is to low in my trainer going by my engine manual, but it is as high as I can get it. Will lowering the engine effect the centre of gravity as it is spot on at the moment? Thx in advance Paul |
RE: cg question?
Lowering the engine won't have an effect on the CG. Most trainers have the tank mounted lower than ideal. It has and tendency to richen the engine setting when flying inverted (not likely in a trainer). I would suggest flying the plane as it is making sure the CG is in the correct position and the plane is also balanced laterally (from wing tip to wing tip).

RE: cg question?
Try inverting the engine if there is room.
This should get the carb lower to accomidate the tank position. ORIGINAL: Spritzen Hi all, my fuel tank is to low in my trainer going by my engine manual, but it is as high as I can get it. Will lowering the engine effect the centre of gravity as it is spot on at the moment? Thx in advance Paul |

RE: cg question?
Ditto, lowering the engine will not effect CG. It will however increase up thrust and effective diherdal. These effects are small and can be ignored assuming you don't move the engine very much from it's intended location. I.e., moving an engine 1/2" up/down on a 40 sized trainer has bascially no affect.

RE: cg question?
I don't know what trainer you have but if it is a production model, chances are it will work the way they designed it. If it works don't fix it !!!! Inverted engines are a pain in the *** and as far as new people go should probably be avoided. Try it the way it is and see if it will run OK, if so LEAVE IT ALONE, just go have fun. ENJOY !!! RED

RE: cg question?
Don't worry about it.
Just fly it, it will be fine. |
