Magazines?
 

I would like to know which magazines you would suggest for a beginner. I am planning on buying my equipment in the near future and would like to find one or two good sources for information.

You don't need the mags, you will find out about it here on RCU 2 months before it hits a mag and all the info is here.

I'm with Tony on this one, I don't see magazines as being very helpful for beginners. The reviews covered by magazines tend to be heavily influenced by their advertisers, and they cover a very limited range of what is available.

In the 80s I subscribed to 5 or 6 modeling magazines (RCM, FM, MAN, MB, RCBM and the obligatory MA). When I got back into flying last year I bought one or two issues of nearly every magazine out there, but quickly decided that I could find more timely information online.

Browsing the RCU beginners forum, and looking at some of the RCU reviews and user reviews, will give you access to hundreds of people giving feedback on planes, engines, radios, and the tools and support equipment that you need to assemble and fly a plane. An added bonus is after you've done some research, I encourage you to use the search tools, you can post a list of the stuff you think you should get and people will validate it by pointing out things that you may have missed and offering alternatives that might be cheaper, more reliable, offer better performance, or are a better long term choice. You just can't get this in a magazine.

You'll get MA when you join the AMA...it would help if you say which type of equipment you are buying?..ie if you are going electric/parkflyer then FlyRC is a good mag but as the other guys say the articles are basically ads so they tend to be all postive image articles...buy a mag for the pretty pictures to drool over but get your advice here, buying, type, size ...just ask,,or search first......Rog

you can always ask your questions here and you will get different opinions from people with different experiences.the best thing is what alot of people used to do.visit a local flying field first and see what equipment is being used,then talk to the instructers a see what they have to say.watch the pilots flying before during and after they fly,see which ones do a pre-flight and after flight check and which ones really land the plane at the slowest speed versus those that fly it down..then ask your questions of the better flyers.
