Lt-40 wing build help
I am building the first half of my first plane. I have glued the top spars and the leading edge to the ribs. this may be a fatal mistake but here it goes. I was not thinking. After gluing on the top spars I noticed that the spars stick up a little above the rib grooves(1/32" or less). Obviously it is to late to take them off to change is this a problem or what can I do to fix the problem. I did not see in the instructions if you are to sand the entire wing or not. I am sure that you could disfigure the wing by doing this. [X(]
Thanks for all of your help in advance |
RE: Lt-40 wing build help
The spars should stick up above the ribs in the middle where the sheeting goes. The ribs out from the sheeted portion should line up with the spar, at least they have on every Sig kit I've built. Hope you remembered to install the shear webs before you put the top spar on. You may have no choice but to sand the spars down. Glen

RE: Lt-40 wing build help
In reply to your question yes I did install the shear webbing first. I took everybodies advice and read through the instructions 3 times before I started to build and I am very glad that I did. I am just trying to make the plane as good as I can get it. I know that there is a learnig curve to building planes. I just want the thing to fly right when I am all done.

RE: Lt-40 wing build help
The leading edge sheeting will probably butt up against the spar in one side and the cap strips will butt up against the spar on the trailing edge side. The sheeting and the cap strips will make the spar flush with the top of the wing.

RE: Lt-40 wing build help
As I remember it, the LT40 doesn't have leading edge sheeting and cap strips. As I said, it's been awhile, so I might be wrong. Glen

RE: Lt-40 wing build help
There is a great LT-40 build thread running.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_34...tm.htm#3581470 Give it a good look over. Posts 69,70,133,134,135,166 have good photos which address your questions IMO. |
