RE: Advice on beginner setup
Hey, DD...before I moved down to Austin I used to compete in metallic silhouette in the unmod handgun class up around Amarillo. Also was an alternate for the rifle team (.22) at West Texas State...way back in 1976!!

RE: Advice on beginner setup
Paladin049, I used to shoot IDPA until my daughter was born. Now she takes up most of my time(I love every minute of it too). She is getting old enough now that I can start having hobbies again(i.e. She doesn't try to eat everything she picks up, and has some sense of danger. So she can hang out in the shop with me). So I'm gonna try the building/flying thing. I probably won't get back into pistol comp anytime soon though. I can always head to the pastures and plink on stuff anytime.

ORIGINAL: DD_Programmer She doesn't try to eat everything she picks up, I told my wife, "We're not letting her date until she's over that" |
RE: Advice on beginner setup
I don't even want to think about her dating. Although, I have thought that it would be slightly intimidating if I were to be cleaning my entire collection of guns when she brought over whover to met us. Would've worked on me.

RE: Advice on beginner setup
Having 'helpers' is fun. most of the time. My son is 9, he loves helping me. My daughter, on the other hand, is 2 and also loves 'helping' me, like thanksgiving morning.. when I woke up to Mom saying 'I dont think you are going to be happy.....'
I had spent the previous evening covering the tail feathers of my daydream sailplane.. well i was really tired, as i finished at about 2am.. i had left the fin/rudder stab/elevator sitting on the table and somehow ended up leaving an xacto blade with them... well my daughter 'helped' me by poking about 40 holes in the covering. none of the peices was spared. All the wood was fine, and she was not hurt (thank god! i dont know how i managed to leave that blade out.. i am always VERY careful, even moreso now!). I got more practice with monokote the next day, was too stuffed and semi-drunk from thanksgiving dinner to trust my covering skills ;) |
