Question on beginner flying?
I bought a Nexstar select airplane a couple of months ago. I had a friend who would take it off and land it for me and just let me fly it when it was high in the air. My question is I have the flight simulator that came with it and have been practicing with it. Do you all think I could take this thing off and land it by just practicing with the flight simulator? How much a difference is the simulator compared to actually flying it? Should I find someone to help me fly it?

RE: Question on beginner flying?
There is not reset on the nexstar. Have somebody instruct you till they think you can solo. That is if you want to keep the plane in one piece for awhile.
Do you feel confortable flying with the instructor? Can you fly the whole flight without the instructor taking over? Except for the landings and takeoffs. If you answer no, give it a little more time with your instructor. Just my 2 cents. |
RE: Question on beginner flying?
when my friend would help me I had no problems when he would give me the controls it's just the landing part I'm not sure of if it's alot like the simulator but with a faster reaction time. I have heard of guys who had no help and just flew from the simulator and then did it on there own but just don't know how true this is.

RE: Question on beginner flying?
You have someone to teach you so TAKE ADVANTAGE and let them teach you so you don't end up with a pile of sticks. Some people have taught themselves BUT most of the self taught would advise using an instructor. Give it time with the friend and keep at the sim and you will soloing in no time.:D

RE: Question on beginner flying?
Thanks but the problem is I use to live in Colorado but now I just moved back to Louisiana and my friend isn't here and am having a time trying to find a someone else to teach me I guess is really the hole problem.
Thanks Chris |
RE: Question on beginner flying?
Find a local club, you'll have the advantage of at least a couple of sets of eyes that have years of experience to help you. You may be able to fly by yourself, but why risk it all if you don't have to? It's different once you have established that you can fly on your own. Good luck.

RE: Question on beginner flying?
I was one of those that taught myself with the help of a simulator. The answer to your question of if you can do it. I bet you could. It wouldn't be pretty and may cause damage but you could do it. If you are able to find somebody go with you that would be best. Taking off and landing on a sim is pretty different compared to real life. On a sim it lands smooth with no damage. So since you can control it just fine in the air I bet you could do it by yourself but just be ready for damage repair. Just remember that finess is the key.

No. How much a difference is the simulator compared to actually flying it? One is reality where crashes are expensive. The other is virtual where crashes are free. Should I find someone to help me fly it? Yes. Dr.1 (15+ years instructing experience) |
RE: Question on beginner flying?
No it's not the same, not even close. But really its not that hard.
