Radios

I am new to r/c and I have read stuff on radios. I must admit that I am totally confused the meaning of some of the terminology. Channels, crystals, and such. Is there a web site I could go to so that I can make a decision on buying a radio set up for my LT 40 Sig. This stuff is confusing when you look at adds for radio.

A basic 4 channel radio has Throttle, rudder, elevator and aileron. You would need another channel if you wanted retracts, and another channel if you want smoke, and so fourth and so on. The crystal determines what frequency your radio is on. For an LT40 you could use a cheap regular old 4 channel radio, but if you are planning on staying in the hobby you might want to look at a higher end radio like a 6,7, or 8 channel computer radio. I use JR radio's. You can see them at the Horizon hobby site. If you have any other questions the folks at Horizon are great people to deal with. If there is any way I can help you out let me know...John

go to the club where you are going to fly,see what the other people are using ,get some different opinions, even hold a radio, they feel different, there is a radio forum here, check it out, must of the radio's on todays market will do the job,but each has a style of there own.

I don't know of a comparison site. The best thing you can do is find the local flying field and see what radios the instructors are using. I fly using Futaba equipment. Most of the guys at my field are flying with JR equipment. I have a cousin who flies Airtronics. And a good friend Flies Hitec. All of them have pluses and minuses.
