Yes indeed, RC flying is soooo cool. As far as you learning to fly RC airplanes, I've trained many women over the years and by far, women learn at light speed compared to men, which tends to irritate men, no end.

Some of the ladies I let fly, learned so fast, I could turn my back on them after the first 15 minutes of instruction. It's really funny when they tell their husbands or boyfriends "why did you tell me learning to fly was hard?" Why do women learn so much faster?
Simple, they didn't have any misconceptions of what they thought they should do. Women just did what they were told, nothing more, nothing less and then figured out what it took to fly the plane very skillfully and smoothly.

Thanks for the input. I have thought of these things, which is why I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about it. He actually lives in Boston and I don't know the rules and regulations there. He grew up on a farm in NJ though where I would guess it would be easier to find a suitable area to fly.

Right now, I'm thinking of trying to get him the flight simulator...and if he likes that, then the plane afterwards. Although the links to simulators that Minnflyer gave me said the product was discontinued..but it did give alternatives.

hahaha. So women succeed by listening to a big strong man telling them what to do, huh? Don't worry - I won't flip out. I'll just rephrase that statement to the following: If men would let go of their massive egos and stop thinking they know everything, they would me much more efficient. : )

Ok, let put this another way for political correctness. As opposed to some men, all women are intelligent enough to follow their instructor's suggestions, nothing more, nothing less. This is why they learn faster.

May it please the court, Christopher Dahle, #23145. Let me just state for counsel's information that if her boyfriend is an engineer, he would probably have fun putting together a Sig Kadet Seniorita.

The Seniorita is still the best flight trainer on the market. However, the construction intimidates most beginners. The Seniorita is also an economical birthday present choice in that the kit costs only about 60 bucks. Add an engine for Christmas and get him a radio at Valentines day and you have got him set up for under $300.

Building it will keep him occupied while you are studying for the bar. Now, get your butt back to the library.

Reactions like this to harmless comments are exactly what have things in this country so messed up. People need to lighten up and stop looking for double meanings and reasons to complain. Let's try and keep the PC stuff out of this website!

I'm adding my two cents worth after reading the thread for awhile, - Flight simulator, then take it from there. I have trained a few that actually found it wasn't for them. A flight sim would be not only a good learning tool, (very cost effective) but a way of finding out if it is really something he (and/or you) want to do.

One more thing no one has covered, go to the local flying field and you may find someone who is either getting out of flying (gasp) or moving on to a 2nd or 3rd plane and would like to sell his whole plane/radio combo for a good price so he can move on to bigger(smaller) and better equipment, so you can save some money, I'd like a good sim myself,, maybe my girl will get me one for xmas, perhaps I should drop some hints hmmmmmmm

ok back to you ,anyway some one there will know someone who knows someone that has a whole setup for sale or check out ebay........my 02 .. Rog :D

Either the Realflight G2 lite(129.99) or Dave Brown (139.99)flight sims, both available through www.towerhobbies.com. And yes, bravo ROG, for suggesting the USED model/radio route. Look in the hobby section of your local paper, or trader.
Spend the winter with the sim, find a used plane in the late winter/early spring.
Just a thought.

My $0.02:

I started with the Realflight Simulator and an Avistar RTF set-up. With the help of an excellent instructor at my local field, I was soloing on my third visit.

Now I'm really hooked. My wife (the wonderful woman she is) bought me a BTE Venture 60 kit which I have just started construction on.

I've been very happy with the performance of my Avistar and was happy to have a plane to fly while building another (not in so much of a hurry to complete it). I will admit however that I'm already eyeing a 7 channel radio.

don't know how far you'r willing to drive but we're down here in fredericksburg about 50 miles south of you.we usealy have some one in the club wanting to get rid of something .been some trainers for sale lately and if you come down to our flying site usealy you can see it fly before you get it.might be able to get you on a buddy box .and if its a used plane the deprecition is gone like buying a used car.if i would suggest getting at least a arf if you don't buy a used one it will get you going a lot quicker
and the best way to learn to fly is burning fuel. if you are going to
a local hobby shop and want to get the best deal go over to doug's he usealy a lot cheaper than hobby hanger unless you'r looking for a copter part doug's does't stock a lot of heli items.

Okay, I'm back. Thanks for all the advice. I bought a RealFlight simulator and the Sig Kadet Seniorita for my boyfriend....I hope he wants to put it together! He loves building, so I think it will work out...if not, I can always return and get him what he wants. I'll let you know if it works out!
