Congradulations Hypter
I received an e-mail last night from Hypter and I wanted to congradulate him on his solo flight. Maybe he will be so kind as to share his day yesterday with the rest of the folks here at RCU.
Go Wes...........   |

Hey thanks guys. It feels pretty good. I scared myself a few times, but the plane came back in one piece. RFG2 helped me alot, so did Doug, Mike, the other Mike and Mike-ull. If you seen the thread "Daddy's little helper" that was the wing I soloed with, probably a good thing Austin, my son looked it over for me, and its a real good thing that I didnt crash the plane, cause that was my *wife's* wing that she did most of the building on. I did get brave and roll it a few times, and like I told Doug, it rolls about as fast as grass grows :)
I went to the field just to practice ground handling, I had no intentions of flying, besides the wind was blowing about 20MPH. But the wind died down and I figured, what the heck, Ill give it a go, I have another plane if I would crash this one. So I went for it and about 20 feet up, the wind pick up a little and almost stalled it. The only time I thought about landing was after the plane was in the air.. I thought, GREAT, now I gotta get it down. But like I practiced on the SIM, I flew it in strait at me and just steped out of its way when it got close, very nice landing, suprised myself! Flew 4 flights yesterday, and I just got back, I flew some this morning, but the wind picked up again.. decided not to fly anymore, not knowing how much longer my luck would last. After flying yesterday, I was so excited, I didnt even clean the plane off... I raced home to email everyone. Thanks alot guys for all the help! |

Guad I love this place!

Flew it straight at you
i've seen this several times, that you're supposed to land by aiming the plane at you (which would put you in the middle of the runway?)?
at my club you are supposed to remain in the flying boxes and land on the runway. _________________________ runway _________________________ __ | | box frankly, if i understand what he said, it sound pretty dangerous, as "stepping out the way" seems fraught with the opportunity to make a mistake and take a plane in the chest. |

Go Wes!!! Congrats! If these people would have seen you flying Doug's Senior that day in Summersville, they wouldn't be surprised!!!!
Mike PS, now it's time to shoot your ass down on G2.....he he :) |

I would take a few steps back just to be safe. I know the danger that was involved, but that was my first landing... the others were away from me...LOL and thanks for the little "ascii picture", yes our club has those too. |
Congradulations Hypter
BTW Hypter, remember...
Now you know just enough to be dangerous! LOL |
Congradulations Hypter
CONGRATS!!!! Min is right. You now know enough to be dangerous, but it will take you years of practice to become terrifyingly dangerous like myself *LOL*.
I hear ya about the wind. I keep telling myself it's too windy... I shouldn't think about it today... The plane is trying to fly while just sitting with the engine off................aw he$$ with it I'm goin flyin. :D :D :D |
Not amused
Frankly I don't find this funny, I'm surprise that the moderator is sharing in the joy of this post.
For someone to aim at themselves on their first landing is absolutely stupid. But its your life and you don't fly at my field, so have a nut. |

Ghostbear over the last few days I've read alot of your posts And I've got to Ask you just one question at Your Club ARE YOU THAT GUY???? You know who I mean the one who has answer for everything.... Who cries running at the slightest hint of any infraction .... Are You the guy that makes most other members cringe in pain when they see your car pull up to the field.... There was a thread in the clubhouse about that guy if you haven't already why don't you look it up and compare the descriptions posted in it to some of you're recent posts i think you'll find that YOU are that Guy and just don't Know it!!!!!! As far as the moderator comment... All I read was one individual congratulating another for accomplishing a goal... How is it you seem to find something wrong or inappropriate with that!!!! If your not THAT GUY. Then I Nominate you... Second anyone?? |

Let's not ruin a celebratory moment with some petty back and forth. Sometimes in the exuberance to describe a new experience we misinterpret just exactly what happened. I'm sure Hypter didn't land directly at himself, but was probably off to the side a bit. Most of us do land with the plane coming towards us to some degree or another. Ghostbear is just concerned with what was said. Fair enough, and not worth spoiling the moment over.
Congratulations, Hyper! :D  |
Congradulations Hypter
ok lets put an end to this.. yes I flew the plane almost strait at me, and I let it fly by me then I landed it.
Thanks to everyone else, except Ghostbear, for the congrats. |

HEY WES!!! CONGRATULATIONS! I knew after that first day in Summersville that it wouldn't be long. And by the way, I knew what you meant by the landing. Some folks just gotta pee on someone elses parade.
Come on down to Summersville anytime. I'd be proud to have you at our field. |

If you've got guys like Joss Stick and Doug helping you, then I doubt that you did anything very dangerous....
