can a stock 4 star sustain a hover? nope, not enough control surface. you might say it can hover, any plane can with enough engine, but in my book it doesn't count as a hover until it is capable of being held for a minute, 10 feet or less off the deck...

I can hover mine for a few seconds and then it falls out. The plane is not designed for 3D however it is one of the best sport flying planes about. Good Luck, Dave

I would say that if you increased the size of the rudder and elevators and put in some good fast servos, with a big enough engine, it could be done. I enlarged the rudder on mine by 1 inch, and it made a huge difference in the knife edge capabilities, I believe that with a few good mods, it would work.

My 4*60 Mag 91 and the only mods are long servo arms and C.F. rods
will hover for a good while... When I tried a Saito 100 on it,(about two
months ago) it would hover for as long as I wanted to hold it there.. Also
I could K.E. a few circuits and did a K.E. flat "8" with the S-100...
The 4*60 is my second plane, and I have quite a few flights on her for
a bit under two years

Guy at out field hovers his 4*60 all the time... too much if you ask me. But anyway, it is totally stock except for landing gear and engine. Uses a FPE gas engine, which swings a large prop, which is why the landing gear had to be replaced with taller gear. It will hover all day, like for minutes upon minutes right over the runway... so yes, you can make a 4* hover.

A gasser on a 4* 60???[X(][X(] Geez, talk about overkill!! Sounds like fun, though!;) You sure it's not a 4* 120 that guy has instead of a 60?

You know, it probably is a 4*120 now that I think about it. My mistake. It felt a bit off when I was typing the post, but I knew it's was 4* running a small First Place gas engine. Anyway, more power is better, but his combo is wicked silly. I settle for 2:1 thrust to weight, I think he has like a zillion to one. Gives new meaning to climb out of hover, the thing just takes off like a rocket. Cheers.

Nope, actually there are quite a few 4* 120s out there running small gassers, and the ones I've seen fly very well. They are just like any other plane here that people overpower... if you build it strong enough, there's no problems. That's one good thing about the 120 size being offered only in kit form and not ARF; you can do all the strengthening and reinforcing at the time of the build and not have to worry about it later on.;)

I have a larger rudder and elevator....
with my Saito 100... could hover no problem

OK let's see, what is the step's you need to take ( well if you had a plane that hover's ) I mean how can you practice it, or how do you get to that point of hover, I know their has to be step's to take or something because I just got a flight sim (rc plane master sim blaster) and I try to hover and cant[:@][:@] lol can anyone help:D:D
